#9 knew that diamonds aren't from coal but I didn't know that most diamonds predate plants.

#7 didn't know Van Gogh's ear was cut off in a sword fight.

#6 didn't know that and I've heard that one told fairly recently. Must be a recent discovery.

#3 I suspected as much but good to know. I still can't believe that anyone would want to run for President in the political climate he ran in. He knew his winning would signal the beginning of a civil war. What was he thinking? White Knight syndrome? He thought he might be able to prevent it? Egomaniac? Everything was already put in motion; there was no way anyone could have stopped it by that point--either concede to the South or war.
