Benchmark Scores well I've fried a 775' P4 12 years ago, that counts?
earthdog.. the point there was a $1500 build for gaming, so for example my list even with a ultra overpowered motherboard still fits the budged,
i know that some minimal corrections may be needed but cooling i think is not one, having your processor cooled or chilled is not such a big deal...

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
Understood. My point is you don't have to spend the entire budget for the exact same performance. ;)

Fiscal responsibility. ;)

In the end it's up to the op... Just throwing things out there for him to decide.

I edited and removed the cherry picking comment...sorry about that. I now see that is the only res they test the CPU at (which is fine for those that run that peculiar as hell res (isn't it typically 2560x1440/1600??). But considering most people are still at 1080p, or even lower more CPU bound resos, its actually a CPU bound res, it would make more sense to me that it was tested at 1080.

As far as your cooler... same story, just would save less, but still $25 is $25. That said, the 240 is $85 at newegg... the 120mm is $60(ish). I don't count MIR... but if you get it back, it sure is $60.
I agree with you wrt to the cooler. You can go cheaper if needed and safe few buck. And also totally agree with your point that most people are at 1080p including the op at this point. However i never saw any proof from your side that shows that the 5820K is slower than 4970K. If something is CPU or GPU bound it depends on the GPU and CPU itself not only on the resolution. Put a GT 720 at 1080p and it will still be GPU bound :p

Clock speed difference is why it would be slower in some titles. Not all of course, but some.

As far as the reso having something to due with cpu. The gpu has something to do with it, as in your extreme example, but for this build, a bigger gpu at 1080p needs some cpu clocks to really stretch its legs. It can tend to create a glass ceiling. ;)

(I'm mobile or I would link you... If you Google though, you should run across some testing).

EDIT: I looked while chilling at chic-fil-a with the kiddos, lol... Anyway, in looking at a few places it seems when it does make a difference (not as often as I thought), it was less than I was thinking, a couple % difference. The gap was more dramatic in my head (and posts). That makes the build you chose a better one performance wise. :)
