I feel like I should be getting better speeds from this drive. If not and this is normal let me know. If you know of updates let me know.

Also, how much performance do you think I would gain running this in RAID 0 with my built in RAID Controllers on my GA-ep45-ud3p Mobo?

Does anyone know how to turn off the acoustic silencer on this drive?(not sure if that is what it is called. ask)

Thanks guys. Just wanna make sure I am getting average to high results.

through put from raid is double as it uses each sata channel itself so take the above raid it with another same drive and there you go

that drive is doing better then i would have expected it to. the 150 Raptors are fairly old now.
100 mbps avg seems to be right on the money, same as access time, sub 7ms.

Raid 0 is not double the performance. for 2 drives on a decent onboard controller its likely to read 80-95% more performance... so about 1.85 times faster then 1 drive.... from there it gets lower but not too much.
if your getting 100MBps avg read speed now with 1 drive, i would expect to see 180MBps from 2 drives in a raid 0.

SSDs are much closer to 100% incress.

im currently running 2 Separate raid 0 on my Intel ICH10R controller.

WD aaks rated at about 115 -125 mbps read speed on its own.
here is the drive in Raid 0 (about 90% incress in speed)

My 150GB Velociraptor gets about 100MB/s according to HDtach. For comparison, my 500GB WDC Black gets about 70MB/s.

the newer WD 1tb blacks get around the 110mbps mark.... hell my blue 640s hit 105.

Velociraptors are usually slower (based on MB/s) than lets say Spinpoint F3 or certain Caviar Black drives.
Access latency is what keeps them ahead a bit.

So as for this build I think I will just get another one of these guys and run RAID 0 and call it quits on the OS drives. They seem to be pretty decent.

The latest 1tb drives from Samsung, Hitachi and co. are faster than those velociraptors, they win on latency though. My drive does 130 mb/s average. On seeing this post I'm thinking about getting another for RAID 0, the price now is £44 on some sites. :)

So slyfox2151, do you think I can reach 200 MB/s with my drive on RAID 0? That'll be a cheap upgrade. :)
