dont think so...

How many threads on how many forums have been devoted entirely to that argument? NVidia fanboys will always say the 7900GT is better while ATI fanboys will always side with the 1900XT. They are both powerful cards. The 7900GT is cheaper and extremely unreliable (just read some newegg customer reviews) and the x1900XT is more expensive and more reliable. As far as performance goes, they aren’t exactly far off from each other and the Nvidia card will probably win in games that were made to be played on Nvidia cards, but might lose in other areas. Now will it be like the difference between the FXs and the 9800s? No! Give it a rest with the battles over which one is better! Personally, I think both cards are too expensive to buy right now with a new generation right around the corner.

This argument is silly. x1900xt's and 7900gt's are in completely different classes of video cards. OF COURSE the x1900 is going to be better! The x1900xt is merely an x1900xtx with slightly less clocks, and compares to the 7900gtx, not the 7900gt.

Yep.

3dmark06 (1280x1024)
X1900XT - 56**
7900GT - 41**

That's a pretty big difference. The only way the 7900GT is going to win is if the game is made specifically for it. Granted the testing systems are different with the ATI using dual core and faster ram while the NVidia used slower ram and an FX-57, but that's too big a difference to just chalk it up to those things. No, I'm not an ATI fanboy by the way. My x800 is my first ATI card after a string of Nvidia dating back to a TNT2 Ultra.

Even if the X1900XT doesnt win vs the 7900GT in frames ( when the x1900 may be pulling [theoretically] 120fps and the 7900gt is pulling 125 ) being an old nV fanboy, I would suffice to say that the X1900XT will undoubtedly bring much more quality in comparison to the nV counterpart. I truly dont care what card is faster, cause at the speeds the X1900's, and X1800's run the only difference is 30-40 FPS maximum, and when the cards are all pulling at least 60-100 ++++++++ in the first place, that makes no difference, it should be a comparison of quality. If you want to have better quality, and a higher MINIMUM fps rate while AA/AF are enabled, go with any of the ATI cards. I've gone through an X1800gto and seen its performance, i've gone through a flashed x1800gto, and seen its performance, and now im running an x1900gt, and i've seen its performance. The difference going from a flashed/overclocked 1800gto to an x1900gt is so minimal that in my new rig i'm going for the HIS x1800gto with the dual slot cooling solution, and itl save me a ton of money.

EDIT: in fact going with ati in general has saved me alot of money across the board [new motherboard, saved money, videocards... saved me money, being able to flash and not have to buy a more expensive videocard, saved me money.]

I.....like most I believe...would just love to see these mythical benchmarks your touting.

Any Linkage?

Every review I have ever read says the 1900xt can match the 7900GTX and the xtx beats it, you sure you are not getting the 2 confused?? And 1900xt's are coming down pretty fast in the UK, you can get one now for around the price of an overclocked 7900GT!

Again you are missing out the 7900GTX and/or confusing the GT with it.

I have a 7900GT so I spose you would call me a fanboy....but I am not, have owned more ATi...bought the 7900GT because it was the best "Bang for Buck" IMO at the time, it was considerably cheaper than ANY 1800XT in the UK at the time, and as my first post said "I would not choose the 7900GT"....simply because x1900XT's are coming nicely down in price now in the UK and is a faster card that visually is much better.

Titan Quest... stupid pure Nivia based game, how gay of Nivida and the makers of this crappy game anyway. I have to turn everything down on my card and even than I think I might of lagged.

And yeah acording to the reviews 1900xt > 7900gt, + better grafical capabilities to win. Not that I like card wars, but it seems to be the way it is.

Edit: game producers should make it easily playable on both cards, unlike the gay fags @ THQ. Oblivion, easily playable on both cards but with the added bonus of HDR with ati's newer cards, now theres a good game producing company.

Agreed! Some games developers just making immoral income from card manufacturers....namely Nvidia!

well, I wont be able to get the 1900s before the rebate runs out, so i will have to go with an 1800. the 1800gto is highly recommended and sounds good enough for my purposes. Is it better then the 1800xt? im looking at the his x1800gto and the sapphire x1800xt. Since the two are only $20 which would be better to get?

The ONLY X1800 card to get besides a GTO is the XT 512MB version. ALmost ALL X1800GTO's will clock to the XT 256MB level. So, if the X1800 XT you are looking at is the 256MB version, get the GTO and save the $20.

if you spend about 40 bucks more you can go for the Sapphire X1800GTO2. Its a 512mb card and already has the pipes unlocked..... i think if you were able to get the bios from it somone here could edit the voltages and clock's and you'd have yourself a pretty nice card.

Nvidia and ATI both rock...and you will get pretty much the same performance outta both companies.......

the original post was what should he buy.....

the xtx is a great and powerfull card, with 48 shaders...but can anyone list ONE game that uses this....and when a game does finally come out and uses ATI's idea about pixel shaders do you really think it will be a game for DX9 or DX10...This card is great but will never have a shot at showing anyone what it can really do..mostly b/c of vista and DX10 coming....if you buy this card you are buying it purley to brag..

And Halo1Mike....get the HIS 1800gto or Saph1800gto2...but if you do a 1800gto then you have to get the HIS...its the only one that is known to always be unlockable...the Saph1800gto2 is already unlocked and will clock to close to the same..so you will be spending $100+ more for xtra 256mb of ram...think about that...would you pay over $100 for 256mb stick of ram for your PC....?????

There is only 35 dollars difference max between the two, and only 15 between the HIS IceQ3 gto and the sapphire gto2, which are the only two im still looking at.

HIS rulz!!! its all in the cooler! Had an ICEQ 2 on my 850xt (Artic silencer rev 5) and can recommend them very strongly the 3 series is the upgraded one and will handle any revs you can throw its way.

Whos getting what confused?...I simply asked "Savior of Filth" to provide a Link to any site that states the 7900GT smokes the X1900XT after he made the statement that It did.......Oddly enough....he couldn't.

The 7900GTX never came Into the discussion. :toast:

As far as the thread goes...I'd wait till the newer dx10 cards come out.....then either go that route....or pick up an X1900XT or XTX on the cheap. :rockout:

Excellent choice. I forgot all about the GTO2. I believe it is basically an X1800 XT 512MB so you'll be in heaven.
