Hello TechPowerUp!

First off, my rig:

Fx8320@4.4Ghz
2x R9 280xCrossfireFactory OC 1020/1500
Gigabyte990fx-a UD3 Revision4
12GB RAM
850wCorsair

Anyway,

Last week I ran Unigine 4.0 and got this. This was with beta 14.3 drivers.

This week I literally did nothing except update my via USB 3.0 drivers (VIA_XHCI_Driver_V4.50A_AP) because they were utilizing 13% CPU at all times, even idle.

After I patched that the cpu back to 1-2% usage at desktop. So I decided to run Heaven again to see what happens.

To my surprise, my FPS plummeted from 70.5, to around 58. Same exact settings, same exact drivers.

So I tried downgrading to catalyst 13.11 and get the exact same results.

The kicker? I get even more min fps, but still get a lower score and FPS overall.

WTF is going on? Is one of my cards dying? Was heaven 4.0 glitching up because my CPU was using 13% at all times. Why did it make results worse?

Help is greatly appreciated kind sirs.

Thank you.

Windows updates have effects on numbers, did the system install an update by chance?

Next time you do a clean OS install put all your drivers on and no updates. Run it and then you'll see what I'm saying. I missed you updated the usb driver So this works to rid of hidden drivers bit's n pieces LOOK HERE
It's a simple but worthy check.

Hey fullinfusion,

Windows updates are disabled, so it cannot be that.

Nothing else was updated except for the USB 3.0 drivers.

Really weird.

Oh, I see. :). Will definitely try that out as soon I get home! Thanks for your help!
Yeah @erocker our Super moderator pointed me to that link a while ago when I was having gpu issues,
and low and behold I had some other gpu stragglers in the display part and once I deleted them all problems were fixed.

I use that feature alot even when changing drivers as a check to be sure nothing was left behind.
And good luck and keep us posted.

Hey,

Just wanted to update...unfortunately it didn't work :slap:

I deleted all obsolete drivers, everything from old mice to processors.

I then performed a clean uninstall by going into safe mode and running display driver uninstall. Then I booted back into Windows and installed fresh 13.12 drivers.

The results?

1467 in Heaven 4.0. God dammit.

I'm honestly pretty sure one card is failing. I mean, if I disable Xfire and run one card I get 975. Whereas I used to get double that with Xfire enabled, now I get half that.

This sucks. Any more ideas? Did you have a similar problem?

Cheers.

In games does this affect performance? or just this benchmark?

ok take the one card out of the system and run the bench.. run it 2 times and dont forget to let the benchmark buffer into the memory for 8-10 seconds before clicking bench.

Take your results and then swap cards. Do the same and post your findings so we can determine the possible problem.

I once had an xfx 5 series card go bad and had alot less performance then its sister card. Xfx was great and after showing them the differences between the two cards they said send it in because its buggered.

EDIT: DONT USE DDU!!!!! it fucks with your system EVEN in safe mode!

Use amd latest un-installer and run it if you thing using the control panel remove programs dont work for you.

Hey again! Thought I should update in case anyone ever goes through something similar.

Haha, I should have read that DDU warning before I ran it in safe mode. It messed up my system to the point where installing drivers were not recognized. Thankfully ATI clean uninstall utility fixed the issues...dodged a bullet there.

I found the problem yesterday! Got smashed on rum and started toying around with the task manager. Ran Heaven 4.0 and got 1700 again! However, I am yet to narrow it down. These are the things I did:

- Set unigine.exe to high priority
- Killed process usb3monitor.exe
- Ran Afterburner and enabled 20% Power Limit

One of these is the culprit. The difference was evident right away, instantly a 7-10 FPS boost in all Heaven 4.0 scenes.

Some people don't like bug fixes and security patches.
Only when I'm in the middle of doing something else and all of a sudden Windows wants to restart my computer. It's fine to disable it... as long as you periodically manually check for updates.

That's how I do it. I just have it let me know theres new updates, then ill install them when I want too. But I don't disable it all together.

We all run your systems differently, as long as you are installing the updates. Good to go.
