I switched a week ago from XP 32-bit to Windows 7 64-bit. But I've run into a problem that apparently affects numerous people, which is while XP recognized 3.5GB, 7 will only recognize 2, despite being 64-bit. I've tried numerous configurations, and the mobo only has 2 slots, so it wasn't particularly difficult to test. Either piece of RAM in either slot will be recognized and the computer starts fine. But a stick in both slots, will stop at 2048MB. I even had someone look at it, and managed to make it recognize all 4GB for almost 2 days, but it stopped working last night when I reconnected the power supply cables to the motherboard for a different problem. msconfig has max memory unchecked, but every time the computer starts, it only reports 2048MB, same with system properties, only showing 2.0 GB. I've looked through the BIOS as well, and I'm not finding any option to reallocate memory. I don't want to update the BIOS, because I currently can't replace the motherboard, and I already know the system is capable of recognizing both sticks and 4GB total. I just don't know how.
