If you plan on overclocking the CPU, the 790i chipset is known to have problems with data corruption. Also I think both NVidia and ATI are working out the bugs in multiple GPU setups that would be similar to yours.

Little info, 3 way SLI only works with 8800GTX/Ultra and 9800GTX. ;)

Not only is it not worth it but its impossible. You can only have 2 9800 GX2's on one setup. Even if you could pry 3 of those on a board why would you. You'll be able to bake a cake in your case :D

be worth what ? a bigger epenis ? yes, be worth $1500 yes, a worthy upgrade ? who knows ???what kind of monitor are you gaming on and how long are you looking to keep the 9800gx2's ive never seen anyone with 3 9800gx2's and can only see ENDLESS driver issues and headaches = money not well spent, if you have that kind of $ burning a hole in your pocket at least wait until the next gen gt200 series come out and then get 2x in sli, with reported performance of the gt200 series that should be a better investment

FYI you can't put 3 GX2s in SLI only 2. A single(2 GPU) 9800GX2 already operates in SLI. Tri SLI works either with a 9800GTX or 8800GTX/Ultra. When you do the counting in either SLI or Crossfire you count the number of GPUs not the number of Video cards. The limit for both so far is 4 ie QuadSLI(2 x GX2s) or QuadFire(2 x X2s). :toast:

As far as them being worth it. It all depends on what games and at what settings and resolution you plan on playing at. Best bet is to do a search for what reviews/comparisons are available on the net and see what results mesh with what you want from your rig.

Also keep in mind that the new NVidia and ATI cards are due out within the next month. That means you will have more and better options available to you by then as well as the possiblity of saving some cash when the current cards drop in price. :rockout:

GX2s are just for milking enthusiasts a little more on the last architecture, just like 7950GX2. According to reports the jump from G92 to GT200 will be even bigger than G70->G80, so I'd definitely skip the G92 for now..

That's what I was thinking. It was a debate with a friend here, I'm actually looking forward to the GTX280, but I'm probably not going to get one.

You would definitely be better off waiting a month until the next generation of cards is released. Even so you can't run 3 9800gx2's together anyway so its doomed from the start.

Sorry for the little bit O/T, but there is talk of no SLi with intel newer "schtuff". Only rumoured though.

Well, it'll probably still be nvidia doing the chipsets, intel just won't do em. They will still have eliminated the fsb and have the new architecture though, which may allow for less bottleneck. All hypothetical though.

My 9800GX2 in my gaming rig does fine with 1600x1200 at "very high" in Crysis. Don't be silly. :wtf:

All GPU drivers can only scale to 4 GPU's so even if you tried you could not.

GX2=2 GPUs

The 9800GX2 doesn't even have the double prong for the usage of three cards.

lol ouch. I didn't think it'd be that bad.

Anyway. To get back on track, A single powerful card or a good double SLI would be best. Tripple SLI is a waste of money.

Well I do hate the thing anyway so I might be a little biased. I put a single G92 GTS in my rig to replace it - showing my complete disdain for it. I'm currently using it as a paperweight  A $600 paperweight :toast:

Wow, you probably aren't hooking it up right:laugh:.

Mine does it with one 9800GX2. There are reviews that disprove your statement. You can't sell it and buy better parts for other sections of your rig? :wtf:

Hand the card to someone who knows how to use it, if you can't figure it out.

Its hard to sell something that was giving to you :shadedshu But if I did do something stupid like that & bought one I would pull out my hair to make it do what I wanted to. I didn't buy the 3870x2 either but it was a hell of a lot easier to squeeze more juice out of then the GX2 :p

How did you OC it? In the motherboard Bios, Software, or Bios flash?

Bios flash - quick & painless. It also automatically made the CCC Overdrive ranges expand to sick levels as well. Too bad my GX2 got too hot for any kind of stable OC.
