I'm new here to the forums and would like to ask a question. I have a biostar ta790gx a2+ motherboard. When I install my HIS 4850 on my master slot in the motheboard my bios doesn't read my hard drive and doesn't boot, but when I run it with the onboard card (Ati 3300) it loads fine and boots into vista. I would like to know what could be causing the issues here are my specs. I've tried in in the slave slot to and it doesn't boot at all either

2.8 Amd dual core processor (black edition)
3 gigs of Kingston hyper x ram (1066)
Biostar TA790GX A2+ mobo
Raidmax 730 Psu
Seagate barracuda 7200 rpm hard drive (250gig)
and HIS 4850 Turbo x Ice q 4 (if it would work) (512mb)

Well I tried that and it still didn't boot I don;t know whats going on. When I put in my gfx card should I clear the cmos first? And I got my power connector going to my card.

No, but you also connected a 6 pin PCI-e to your 4850 correct
Have you tried to update the bios for your mobo

If your not getting anything at boot up, drivers wont help, like tigger said if you have another pc you can test the card on that would help or do you have another video card to test in that pc
When you boot with the 4850, you are saying you can't get into the bios correct, your getting a black screen

wheres the dvi cable connected. if youre using the 4850 make sure the monitor dvi or vga cable is connected to the graphics card and not onto the motherboard, as that would be connected to the onboard graphics.

No I can see the bios and everything just doesn't boot up at all it goes to a hardware monitor page but that's normal during start up but it should boot into vista after that.

yes it should.....What about what IINEXUSII asked you have it plugged into the Video card right, what operating system are you using, you can't delete your onboard video drivers as they are part of the chipset driver's you can reinstall after you get this video card to work but catalyst will do that anyways...You are saying it gets to the HW and goes to boot but goes to a black screen correct, and in the bios you have Integrated grphics disabled and under pci express.... you have port 2 and 3 set to auto

Well thanks for the help guys I got it working. I had my friend come over and help he also is good with computers (a little bit smarter then me) but we got it working. It wasn't that card I needed to install then we waited for vista to boot which took like 5 mins. After we uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them after that rebooted and everything worked. I'm finally glad that's over with thanks for the suggestions.

Turns out that wasn't it either. On the back of my power supply I have a voltage switch it's not automatic and I must of switched it to 230 awhile ago for some reason. Turns out in America the voltage for power outlets is 115/120 so I switched my voltage switch in the back to 115 and everything has been working like a charm. That's probably why I was getting all those problems with my computer. Oh well got it all fixed so I can play some WoW and Cod 4 woot!

lol lucky you dont live in an area supplying 240volts, apparently the psu may explode if u switch it to 115v.
