5600x to 5800x3d...should I reseat my CPU due to temps?

Before asking yes I have searched. I know 90C is kinda normal for this chip. During a cinebench r23 test I reached 90.6c. I undervolted via the BIOS slightly lower but did peak at 90C.

I use this PC for iRacing and MSFS Flight Simulator and under either of these games I don't come close to maxing things out so the CPU stays cool.

I am a bit OCD to apologies for asking a likely dumb question. Would love some opinions

Unless you really messed up or you got an exotic cooler, no matter how many time you reseat the 5800X3D would go that hot.

Research about Curve Optimizer, set it to -30, have a quick check on stability, and call it a day.
If it turns out unstable, you are a bit unlucky. Drop the CO a bit until it is stable.
If your cooler is any good and your room is not ridiculously hot, a -30 setting should be good enough to not reach 90C.

If your board is from MSI, there should be a "Kombo something" in BIOS. Set it to Level 3 and it has the same effect as -30.
I have heard that latest version BIOS on ASUS boards should have an option literally called "Curve Optimizer". Not sure about other brands.

What cooler are you using?

This.

It could be normal given what you're using; I'd only question it if you have a very beefy cooler already as mentioned.
Also are you running a negative core offset (-CO)?

That will help a lot when enabled, mine shot right to 90c (stock) in R23 with a Noctua NH-U12A.
With a -30 CO (all-core) it dropped down to 82c, and again to 73c once I upgraded my cooler.

240 NZXT AOI. I did undervolt in my BIOS setting a negative offset of 0.05000. Will have to research the curve optimizer. I have looked into the using the PBO2 thing but not crazy about software doing the adjustment. Feel like it's sloppy.

I used this guys video to do the undervolting (Undervolt your Ryzen 7 5800X3D for more FPS and Lower Temperature!).

Part of me is never gonna be running this thing under full load so might just say screw it and leave it as is.

Honestly, my 58X3D is one of the coolest chips that I own. R23 usually runs at about 65c using FC140 and a single fan in the middle position.

You could enter the PBO menu and enter a negative all core offset of -25 and see what that does. If it only helps marginally, the. I would point my finger at your cooler.

and I figured it out. I was using some other video to undervolt which was not using the curve optimizer. Went back into BIOS and set it up for a -30 and just ran a cinebench test and max temp was 84.9.
Plus back cinebench score when from 13229 to 13673 so not too shabby. Since I will likely never max this chip out for the foreseeable future I think I am set. Thannks folks appreciate the help!

Yeah, the OP's X3D, sounds just like my 5800X non-X3D. Even though I only saw my "regular" 5800X hit 90C, when the pump speed was too low. It started thermal-throttling, IIRC.

The single-CCD chips need a heatsink with a more-concentrated area. That means that for air, more pipes with less gaps.

IIRC, 90C is too hot and is the throttling point.

^ It's hotter, at least in my experience, compared to the 5800X.
My NH-U12A was more than enough for that, but couldn't hang with the X3D when fully pushed (at stock anyway).

I just tried this on my MSI X470 Motherboard set it to 3 on the Kombo Strike and changed the offset to - etc and boom! my temps dropped by 7c and my all core clock is almost now 4.4GHz.....4.35 most of the time, insane!
