I think it depends on how much money you got in your pocket. I bought 2 8600gt for a $100 a piece. I score 8800 in 3dmark06. It's not the fastest , but it's not the slowest either. And no need for a 800 watts psu.

Don't waste your time with the 8800 GTS unless you are getting the newer rev available at the end of November. If you want similar performance, however, just wait for the 8800 GT card. It will be the segment champ ($200 to $250) with better than current GTS performance.

Hmmmm, everything I have read suggests it wont match the 640MB 8800GTS, certainly not at stock, I am interested in a couple of these for SLi (but not sure if they will run in my two 8x slots), I will be interrested to see some trustworthy benches of the card TBH.

Well, with an extra 16 shader processors, it will be more capable core than the current gen 8800 GTS cards. I would look for the 8800 GTS 320 to be dropped and a new 8800 GTS 640 core on the horizon with 112 SP cores, as well. Memory may be only 256 bit, but for $250, the 512MB card looks to be a bargain. So, better to wait a little and see what this card really delivers.
