The 8600 has less stream processors at a slower speed.

It's just like the 7600 and 7800 graphics cards. Same type of thing.

8600 is a mid-range card. 8800 is a high-end card

.. those pricings looks insane. In SEK (swedish crowns ) the 8600GT 1300, GTS 1700 and the cheapest 8800GTS 2400. Where are you from?

yea get what u want if u are really into gaming..dont be limited on the stress of the graphix..because i can guarantee u, u should be able to run any game maxed with the 8800GTS/GTX whatever u decide to get. Also depends on your processor to, so if u are going to get one of those make sure there's no bottleneck it will slow u down bad.

its for a friend, he wants a nice laptop for around 1200 bucks.. (600 quid) any ideas?

I am patient, I will wait until things settle down with DX10 transistion and AMD new procs come out then I will buy

It also sucks more power which Kind of goes to show its working harder, I know don't rate on that but its something. And just look at the Benchmarks. You would do fine with a 8600GTS, I have 2 GT's In sli and you can see my scores. The 8900 will come out and the 8800 will drop in price along with more compatibility towards DX10. Have fun

Certainly is! Some of this is unconfirmed but you can take it as you wish, some is fact, I have pasted this from a G92 thread of last week:

Not so sure as I beleive all of it although the 8800GTX is 100% faster than the 7900GTX so I suppose some of it is beleivable....wont be too long to wait and see in any case.

Honestly? Dont get any DX10 card. They all suck for reasons I gone into before. Get a cheaper, faster, DX9 card. When the time comes to replace that DX9 card there will be decent DX10 cards out. Unless you have the money for at least a 88GTS, the DX10 cards are sucking heavily right now.

I have read many reviews of were 1 7900GS at stock and overclocked speeds pwns the 8600GTS overclocked. So what i am saying is the 7900GS at stock speeds is faster than the 8600GTS at overclocked speeds.The 8600 has a 128-bit RAM and the 7900GS has 256bit. So just save your money and get a 7900GT or a 7950 they will own a 8600. BTW i am not just saying this so i can sell my 7900 because it isn't for sale anymore.
