So....this has me intensely curious. Did your boss give a reason why you can't plug anything into the outlets even, other that he is an A-hole? I mean, he knows that even prisoners plug shit in, doesn't he?

It's funny how my instructor uses a USB powered fan with his laptop where the blades are spinning fast enough to cut skin while my fan runs slow enough to stick your finger in to stop the blades with no injury at all.

I might have a 5v fan at home, but I just got to work. For now I can piss him off with my battery pack.

yeah I'd worry about getting paid if my company was worried about a few extra devices being plugged into outlets. "So you're telling me you can't afford a few more cents of electricity but my paycheck will be on time?, Righhhhtt!"

That is Probably as a result of
A. an Insurance requirment ie it has to be Certified by a electrican
and
B. A Security Policy no external USB devices to be plugged in to Company Owned Devices with USb conectivity ie Removable Media ( USB Drives . external hard drives and USB toys

Everyone be jelly. You can take the battery home and charge it via AC when it needs it. It has a USB port too so you could run/charge something else off of that.

They usually run off of large Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) batteries--I bet it would run a week off a charge. That battery would likely need to be replaced every five years. They are about $50.

So I found a stock Intel fan that runs at a slightly lower amperage so let's hope that works.

As for the battery pack, it lasted about 6 hours before having issues providing power to the fan, which I should include has four LED lights in it. Not too bad.

Anyway, good luck making that Intel fan start at 3V... If it won't, just give the fan a gentle spin manually, it should be able to carry on spinning after that.
