The Crosshair should support 125W, not 140W. Phenom I should be no problem and some Phenom II, probably C2 stepping or older.

No only AM2+ as listed in wiki, not sure about 125 vs 140w but I just brought a 9950BE 125w from a member here.

This will pair nicely with my new to me 280GTX.
My original build was a AMD 4600+ AM2, 2GB DDR2800, ATI X1900XTX, 74GB 16GB Cache Raptor, built late 2006, right after the mad X2 price drop.

Been looking for a small upgrade until sandy bridge, then Im going to due a much needed full upgrade.
i7, Dual RaptorX 300GB, 8GB RAM, and Im just going to SLI another 280GTX.

I just purchased a new monitor NEC 2490WUXI2, the best monitor I ever had, playing games at 1900x1200 my processor is 100 percent max.
Bottlenecking the shit out of my video card.

The fastest chip this board supports with the modified bios is the 940.

Make sure you get V3.

The only problem is you can only use 2 Memory Modules, they fixed a long standing vdimm voltage bug, however you lose 2 memory slots.

"Now, what you get with this unofficial Crosshair BIOS 1304 (origin is ASUS support) is a fix for the vDIMM bug (as known at least since 1207), which you trade in for only being able to use 2 memory modules! Yes, it will only work with two (2) memory modules - if you are using 4 memory sticks, I advise to switch your memory to e.g. 2x2Gb or don't flash this BIOS! I here explicitly state that using 4 memory modules under my modded 1304 BIOS will result in your motherboard failing to POST and/or boot.

Moreover, you get an updated AGESA-Code (thanks to the donor BIOS 2208 of M2N32-SLI Deluxe) which will identify all PhenonII AM2+ CPUs (and only those! don't even bother trying a AM3-CPU on this board!). As a nice side effect having a correctly IDed CPU, the temperatures will look a lot nicer on the read-outs Last but not least, I've updated the Silicon Image 3132 eSATA-Controller to it's latest manufacturer BIOS 7.5.07! BIOS runs stable and makes your old Crosshair compatible to PhenomII (AM2+ only!)"

The Phenom II 940BE would have been the better choice but good luck with the 9950BE!

No doubt I can get a 940BE for 95 bucks shipped, but I was looking for something to get me by for 1-2 months, I got the 9950BE for 50 shipped.
