AMD Radeon RX 480 specifications leaked?

A slide from AMD’s internal presentation has allegedly been leaked.

AMD Radeon RX 480, 5.5 TFLOPs, 8GB 256-bit
The specifications are rather poor in details, but we are told that the RX 480 (it appears this is in fact the official name for this card) has 5.5 TFLOPs single-precision computing power. Card would be equipped with 8GB GDDR5 memory across 256-bit interface.

The card will be powered through single 6-pin power connector, and judging from the chart it will compete with NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 970 and GTX 980. The 6-pin power connector together with PCI-Express slot can provide 150W of power, which means Polaris 10 will require less than that.

AMD Radeon RX 480 would support DirectX12 with Async Compute capability. RX 480 will also feature DisplayPort 1.4, full HEVC and HDR monitor support.

The 5.5 TFLOPs computing power would indicate that RX 480 has 2304 Stream Processors clocked at 1200 MHz, but this part is pure speculation at this point.

It's a little awkward that they to compare to some of Nvidia last gen GPU's, but i suppose it only makes sense since the next gen offerings from both sides are targeted at different market segments.

So this only really applies to AMD's lineup and whos to say that the Tflops = actual gaming performance.
Time and again AMD has more raw compute but falls behind in games. the new Series may switch that a bit we do not know just yet.

If those specs are true, let me establish from now my estimation about its performance: It will surpass 390X for sure, also win 980 and perhaps be at Fury's (non-X) level for $250-299 (especially in DX11 due to arch improvements). And that product might become the bargain GPU of all times for any gamer on a budget with: DX12 superiority vs green camp, low power comsumption, thermals, noise. There will be 2 important things to be revealed later though: OC level and the not so low possibility for this GPU to be a cut down version with a full on edition to follow in 2-3 months and go against 1070.

Yes however we're comparing their previous gen not NV/AMD they aren't going to go backwards on performance/tflops.... especially moving to 16nm so it will be at the very least smack bang between 390/390x if the above info is even legit.

R9 380x = 3.97 Tflops
7970 Ghz = 4.3 Tflops

380x is on par or faster than 7970 Ghz but less compute performance.

480x could very well be slower in terms of PEAK Tflops but might out perform the 390x again remains to be seen but since AMD has done this before it could very well happen again.

Still all things considered 480x will likely be as shown in between the 390 and 390x

The supposed 3Dmark results show what is said to be a 480x beating the 390x. So again remains to be seen what will happen.

I'd expect RX 480 to be at least on a level of R9 390X. Which means RX 490X needs to be R9 Fury X level. Otherwise I don't understand the Polaris product placement within the market...

I did say that, hence me sayng at the very least it would be there or there abouts but could well be higher with new fab process and architecture improvements

Either way I think I'll be going AMD this time around NV is too expensive for my liking and it will probably be around the 480 price/performance point.

I wish I had a GTX480 just so I could upgrade to an RX480...

I'm looking forward to seeing this card released, I agree with @NdMk2o1o that this will be a great price/performance option...but as always I would expect NV to trim the price fat off of their profit per card soon after these are released. Bringeth the RX480 to release!

Another good year of GPU releases (I don't feel the 300-series or R9 Fury/Nano's were bad releases at all)...let's keep this trend and hope the RX480 provides some more competition than that slideshow signifies it might.

I think the 480/480X will be between 970 to Fury-ish levels and the 490(X) easily faster than anything before, including Fury X. Everything else would be a disappointment. I expect 490(X) to be as fast as GTX 1080 or faster.

I'm getting the bad feeling this is the "Fury X is an overclocker's dream" kind of hype AMD delivered to us back before Fury cards launched.

If this is the case, i expect these new cards to excell @ power draw, as claimed, but not so much on the performance front: it should still blow out of the water anything currently priced like this and it SHOULD be enough for the average user, which is what AMD's going for, but i seriously doubt it will touch nVidia's new cards.

Here's to hoping i'm completely wrong!

Come close? it would blow it out of the water (obviously good scaling games dependant as always with multi-GPU setups..) but if this is the case, $199 for a 480 (which I personally highly doubt and think you could add a $100 on to that price for a realistic expected price) would be a major coup for AMD, can't see it myself though and like I said, I think they will be more around the $299 point
