AMD began selling the A10-6790K, a new socket FM2 APU based on the 32 nm "Richland" silicon. The chip is positioned between the A10-6700 and the A10-6800K, and is a notch below the latter. It comes with an unlocked base-clock multiplier, making overclocking a breeze. The A10-6790K features 4.00 GHz CPU clocks, with maximum TurboCore frequencies of 4.30 GHz, each a notch (0.5x base) lower than the 4.10 GHz core and 4.40 GHz TurboCore frequencies of the A10-6800K. Further, the maximum rated DRAM speed is lowered from DDR3-2133 MHz on the A10-6800K, to DDR3-1866 MHz on the new chip. It features the same Radeon HD 8670D graphics clocked at 844 MHz, and its TDP rating is the same 100W. Expect the chip to be priced about 15 percent lower than the A10-6800K.

I'm guessing AMD is trying to clear out inventory ahead of Kaveri.

It's already at newegg, but right now it is $10 more than the A10-6800K. I'm sure that is just because it is new and the price will probably settle to about $110. Hopefully this means there will be a price cut on the A8-6600K since it is already at the $110 price point, so it wouldn't make much sense to keep both at the same price.

The A10-6800K is pretty consistantly at $120-130. So right now the A10-6790K is overpriced.

Kaveri is supposed to be FM2+ though.

There are plenty of FM2+ boards on sale.

With that said, I see no point of this chip. I would have rather seen Kaveri before Christmas...

I never said there wasn't FM2+ boards on the market, though I wouldn't say there are "plenty".

My point was that Kaveri is FM2+, the title clearly says FM2, so just by reading the title you could tell his wasn't Kaveri. Plus the Kaveri processors will be the Ax-7000 series.

There are over 20 different models at Newegg so I guess our definition of plenty differs. But yes, you are right the title and the product number clearly points Richland :)

And there are over 3 times as many FM2 models. There are as many FM1 motherboards as there are FM2+. When we start to see more FM2+ motherboards than FM2, that is when there are plenty IMO.

Useless, should have just made them all 6700s and lowered the price.

Yes but sometimes I have a bad habit of just glancing at the headline instead of actually reading it properly & I instantly thought it might of been Kaveri  Don't ask my why, my minds weird like that :fear:

Well, A10 6790K is supposed to be 110-120... so there's a place for it.

Me too. Anyway, how does it affect you that it's out on the market? It's there and it isn't hurting anyone, hell, it's helping AMD get rid of slightly lesser chips and make a profit while they're at it.

Yes, and we've gone full circle, it is $130 on newegg right now, it seems to be a little overpriced because it is new, the price should settle to about $110 and hopefully that will mean the A8-6600K gets a price cut. I'm just repeating what I already said that you decided to argue with and now agree with for some reason.

It doesn't hurt me any. However, the lack of Kaveri chips this Christmas ensured that that two laptops I am purchasing are Haswell. The only loser is AMD for being incompetent and missing the entire holiday season on their new APU lineup for both the mobile and desktop markets. In addition, their mandated delay of AIB R9 290 and 290X (I can't recommend the reference design to anyone not water cooling) are certain to have more individuals turn to Nvidia for their holiday purchases. I guess AMD felt it was acceptable to lose market share for not only Q3 but Q4 as well. As soon AMD can figure out how to deliver a product in a timely manner, it can receive my business. Stockings must be stuffed before the 25th, not after!
