It's because there's not enough Fermi's to go around. IMO I would take care of XFX but NVIDIA seems to think otherwise.

Asus won't pull out, only real problem with fermi is the GTX480's heat problems and Asus does not stick to stock cooling for long anyway, if anything they will stick a new heatsink on it and try to sell more than their competition by spamming it.

artificial shortages can keep the price high as it fakes a massive demand. Same thing the wii did. They had 2 million units just sitting in a warehouse when the world was sold out so they could keep from dropping the price on it and show it's high demand.
