But operates like WASAPI which sucks. I can play games with their sound while listening to the Foobar2k using ASIO out on X-Fi Forte. After reading this, if you play anything through ASIO, all the other sounds don't work at all. Which makes me wonder, i remember doing the same on Essence STX when i owned it and it worked just the same as on X-Fi Forte. Unless the ASIO wasn't bit perfect and that allowed the playback of all streams at once.

ASIO will never allow mutiple stream. It is how it works, its made for professional work with minimal latency not for playing music while gaming.

WASAPI works the same, you just have to make it exclusive mode and not shared mode. As mentioned above true ASIO does not do multiple streams. For playback, I personally use XMPlay, using the WASAPI output plugin in exclusive mode, which subjectively seems to make it sound somewhat cleaner. But for music production on the PC I use ASIO, or on me Macs I use whatever it was called lol can't remember for the life of me. Don't fire them up very often :p, Also the "new" beta driver isn't the 7.12.8.1771 version is it? Because that one has been super-seeded by the 7.12.8.1777 version.

Do'h - yes it is. but i dont fucking care anymore. Asus drivers for the Xonar STX are all the same. they just changed small parts of it that dont really matter but the core of the driver is still the same.

Well this sounds experimental but there's always driver cleaner if things go haywire someone has hacked together a beta copy of the D2/D2X drivers which are apparently better and more mature to work on the STX feel free to try em out --> http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=293049 , otherwise yeah most sound driver updates seems to be placebo related with only minor features and bugs really being ironed out with no actual quality improvements given. That old beta driver was as mentioned only for an ASIO update to the original drivers I believe, otherwise, just keep an eye on this page --> ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/Audio_Card/Xonar_Essence_STX/ for anything promising sounding from time to time. :)

Well then what it was if not ASIO. I was using it on both Xonar Essence STX and X-Fi Forte.
