Update!

I bought an HD3450 which is utter crap but anyhow it works fine, not a single artifact.
So it seems like my 2900XT was dieing. As of now I'll pronounce him dead.

GPU Died: 5th July 2008, 10:38AM

Soooo any suggestions for a top notch ATi card?
Also if possible suggestion for a new PCI-E 2.0 mobo as the one I'm on is 1.0a so yeah.

Thanks in advanced guys and thanks for helping me find the problem!

i have a 3450 in my media PC (asus 512MB passive cooled model)

PCI-E 1.0 and 2.0 dont really mean anything at this point in time, as they're both compatible.

So there isn't much of a performance hit?

New card depends on your budget:

<£100 - 3870

£100 - £150 - 2x3850 or 4850
£150 - £200 - 3870x2 or 4870
£200 - £300 - 2x4850
£300 - £500 - 2x4870, 2x 3870x2, 3 or 4x4850
£500 - £1000 - 3 or 4 4870

As for boards, Asus P5E/P5E3/Maximus/Rampage for Intel CPUs or MSI K9A2 or ASUS M3A range for AMDs.

For 4000 series cards PCI-E 2.0 does make a difference especially in CF

Go with a 4850, or a 3870. I went from a 2900XT to a 4850, and wow. This card is easily twice as fast as my old 2900XT, very impressed for $200:)

Edit: I'm on PCI-e 1.0, and it runs fine.
