I was having some problems at startup with my vid card, I would get a screen flash at startup where the screen would go black for a second then come back with no problems. I had ATI 7.11 installed at this point so I just thought the driver was posibly broken so I downloaded the driver(Catalyst Suite) from the ATI/AMD page and then did a complete uninstall of any and all ATI drivers. Once that was completed I restarted and installed the drivers (Catalyst Suite), followed by the required restart. After the install was complete I dont see the Catalyst Control Center in my lower taskbar or in the Start menu. However I do see that CCC.exe is running in my task manager. Where's my CCC..? Anyone else experience the same thing ?

Thank You.

System Name Pentagon server farm :)
xp home :( why not pro?
is that agp carg? or pcie.
if its an agp card,
the reason could be that u have blank screen after boot is that drivers are setting up agp gart driver.
(agp speed 8x and other crap). try to install mbo drivers first then dx and last vga drivers.
no ccc in tray? maybe u accidently turned off hw acceleration in troubleshooter.
PS. before instaling new drivers for vga u should remove any old ones via ati unninstall utility.
this is what i would do if i had the same prob. or just wait some replys from more expirienced users:)

i just remembered something..
run ati ccc via prog.files>ccc. under pref tick enable ati tray icon... if it is,
go to RUN and type msconfig. it shoulda be normal start up under general. or find under start up ati ccc and tick it to run when sys boots up.

Did some Windows Updates none were .net related. Prior to removal I had gone in to the Program Files folder and noticed that there were 2 ATI folders, Ati Technologies and ATi Technologies (2).I removed the old drivers with the Ati Uninstall Utitlity. Once I clicked it I received an Error Initilazing message but it still went through with the uninstall. After that I was prompted to restart followed by the removal or the above mentioned Ati folders. Restarted again after that and checked that all Ati drivers or folders were gone. Proceeded into 7.11 install, which ran and then prompted for restart which was done. After restart no CCC in taskbar an no Ati folder in the Start menu even (!) I can see CCC.exe running in my task manager but nowhere else.

Software A lot.
Benchmark Scores Its fast. Enough.
The black screen at boot only started for me when I moved to DVI port, i assumed it was either the driver taking control of the GPU clock speeds and settings or the content protection scheme starting for the digital out.

Either way mine does it and everyhting works fine, it also flashes black when I change a 3D setting.

Thanks for reminding me there Steevo, I am using DVI as well on both ends no VGA D-SUB. On a similar note the new Ati drivers just released today 7.12. When downloaded from ATI/AMD site its labeled as 7-11 (!) I guess its worth a whirl so I might as well.

I think still you need to reinstall the .nets but use Driver Cleaner Pro first then .net2 for sure and then reinstall.

After using Driver Cleaner Pro I got BSOD nvata.sys error and then restarted. It looked like it worked because my video ahd switched to the default 800x600 setting. I installed and got a RegPermWriter.exe error(Google search said its spyware)and got CCC in the start menu but with blank icons. If I try and click on Restart Runtime I get a looking for MOM.exe,etc..... I'm running both a virus and spyware scan as I post this.Talk about getting caught with your pants down.

for some reason mine does this too. add clistart.exe to your startup folder and that will fix it.

.Net was installed but I uninstalled then reinstalled anyway. Scan found a virus in the System restore folder so I turned off System restore so any viri could be deleted properly.I forget the name of the virus off hand. I ran an Ad-Aware scan this morning and found nothing. I then followed it up with the removal of Ati drivers and then with Drive Cleaner Pro. After that reinstall and still no CCC. I see no sign of CCC.exe or MOM.exe in task manager.

I'm thinking maybe either a) try reseating the card or b)putting it the other slot. I have 2 pci-e x16 slots (ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe) or c)Reinstall Windows XP.

Do you mean right after the Windows XP loading screen it flashes black on/off, then goes to the 'Welcome' screen and signs you into desktop? If so, that happens for me too, and its perfectly normal.

No. It was right after log on while the desktop and such was loading.

I have 3 instances of .Net installed according to add/remove:

.Net Compact Framework 1.0 SP3 Developer
.Net Compact Framework 2.0
.Net Framework 2.0

Should I remove all of these and then reinstall .Net ?

That worked, thank you ! I also ran Drive Cleaner Pro to get rid of any ATI left behind. Then installed .Net and then 7.12.
