Maybe the $259/$379 pricing (not $299/399 as originally leaked) for the first batch of boards was actually an "enthusiast discount" to quickly sell them and get ~20,000 58xx cards into the hands of vocal/forum-posting/enthusiasts to help generate a buzz.
It may have been indeed, but also prices will have increased due to the demand still being very high for the cards, since they seem to disappear instantly. I'm thankful i bought mine when they first came out
