I'm not sure that nvidia is much better in this regard. Most high end cards will do what you are wanting but generally, you should be looking for upgraded cooling systems rather than standard reference designs. This is where you will get reliability.

The GTX 295 is the best Nvidia card. (I think... But I'm no expert on Nvidia cards, so it could be the GTS 250)

gtx 295 is what i was looking at just dident know what or if it is any good or not. never having delt with the nvidia before i am not sure if its a good choice or not. should i just buy a nother 4850 or two higher ati cards and do sli instead but having sli will just make more heat and then i have to add more fans. is the above card any good seams as most manufactures put more ooomph into there advertising and glory just to get more sold ya know. just what are we to believe? anyway what do i get if you was in my shoes!

I think the GTX 295 is the way to go, it is stronger than two 4850s in crossfire. It also consumes less energy.

however it would be cheaper to go the 4850 crossfire route.

IF IT WAS ME:
I would wait until Sept 10th, when ATI announces/releases their new HD 5 series.

thanks :) its not how cheap i want it, its a matter of how good they are, but i have heard about dx 11 coming out will google what they have to offer me.
as it is the gtx XFX GeForce 295 GTX and the eVGA GeForce GTX 295 CO-OP Edition and the Gigabyte GV-N295-18I-B and the ASUS ENGTX295/2DI/1792MD3 are all between nzd 962$ 975$ and to be honest whats the difference? i am swinging towards the gtx295 thoe will deside in a few months best bet is to ask around and see what you and others say 1st i reckon.

Avoid the stores?

If you are looking into DX10.1/DX11... ATI's offering will be better as even the HD4 series offers better DX11 support than Nvidia... So you can imagine what the HD5 series will be. My recommendation is to wait till the HD5 launch.

I tend to buy from a pc online store as they are so dam cheaper than most. but i will be running windows 7 and vista and i like the way games play on them so will wait till the dx11 cards come out and see whats best no two ways around it.
i'll keep the 4850 card for my 4yo daughter who likes to play games as well.
do you know when they will launch dx11 cards? September i think it is, if so it's going to tie in well with the rest of the bits n bobs i need to get going. and by november when modern warfare hits the shelves i'll have it all set up with vista 64 and be playing it on the big screen.

Nvidia doesn't look like they'll be releasing any GT300 cards anytime soon. The 5870 is your best best!

If you want the latest and Greatest at the moment your going to have to grab an ATI HD5xxx Series card.

I know you've been having problems with ATI now but that doesn't mean you will constantly with every new and different card you get. Shit happens, even with Nvidia.

I see you are looking for a new card since you say that your ATI is giving you bluesceens. I have yet to have my 4850 cause bluescreens. I have used 9.5 on up far as drivers and have never had bluescreens. You dont have what you have in your system at all other than the 4850 and Vista 64. I have even flashed my card with other BIOS  still running like a champ. Could be some thing else is all I am saying if you dont have a CPU that can keep up its pointless to get a highend card. ATI and Nvidia have cards that can run that game good. Well from what I have seen at least. Hope you get your rig running how you want it too. :toast:

to be honest i've never had problems with ati, and only with nvidia, so i think it just comes down to the particular card. But ati are the ones with the best cards at the moment, and also the fan is actually really quiet on the hd5870 unless you whack it up full (it never does that itself btw, it never needs to go past 60% in my experience), then it sounds like a hairdryer. but since it does reduce the temps to sub 70 for me, its worthwhile blasting it for a minute if the temps go high for some reason (again, not a problem i've had).

of course, you could always wait for the gtx380 (i would assume is the name) and give it a look, but i'm not very confident in nvidias ability to pull it off this generation, hence my investment in the hd5870 :)

I feel your pain when you get a BSOD that no one else seems to get. What is the BSOD you are getting? You can look in the error log file in Admin tools in the Windows Control panel :(

Funny enough I get BSOD out of no where with my 4850 but the day I swap that out for my 5870 no BSOD so far to this day. :toast:

Erocker i get the nvata.sys error time and time again it just shuts down i have noticed that when i up the fan over to 94% it will 80% of the time crash. i reinstalled it washed the mobo down with Isopropyl alcohol anyway this did not fix it. what gets me on the os side of things is that i cant even install style xp says style xp is not supported on this version. guess the os dont like my mobo lol. thanks will have a clean install and go from there 1st then if it happens again i'll trash the pc and start again

zubasa yes i think an upgrade may get rid of bsod for me i dont think it likes my system lol
