tHE erXAMINER - ‘Battlefield 4’ PS4 and Xbox One most anticipated commander feature revealed Credit: Electronic Arts

Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment has revealed the most anticipated feature in the commander mode of the upcoming PS4 and Xbox One title, “Battlefield 4.” According to a message from the official “Battlefield” Twitter page on July 12, a representative from the studio revealed that a majority of fans chose the ability to send in “deadly tactical strikes” as their most wanted. You can check out a set of screenshots showcasing the first-person shooting video game in the slideshow at the top of this article.

Players can also command their troops and deploy gunship while playing as a commander in “Battlefield 4.” The sequel features 64 players on the PC, PS4 and Xbox One as well as 24 players on the PS3 and Xbox 360. All platforms should also support two commanders, one for each opposing side.

“Battlefield 4” is being developed by the aforesaid Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment and will be published by Electronic Arts. The video game should begin shipping in North America on Oct. 29. You can pre-order the products from Amazon in the following links: “Battlefield 4,” PS4 and Xbox One

70+ players would be very cool if the maps are done correctly. They need to be huge maps that have the right amount cover to discourage too much sniper and tank camping, with some areas where the infantry battles tend to happen. Mobility would also be very important with the need for more fast light vehicles so you don't have to hump it for 5 minutes just to get dinked by a random sniper hiding on the edge of the map.

If the maps are too small it will be a catastrophe of nade spam through chokes.

I don't want too big of maps, then its more running then shooting, and that gets boring.

That's what helicopters transports and fast light vehicles (quads, hummers, whatever) are for.

The thing is maps have to be exponentially larger to support more players. That is, a map for say, 64 players cannot simply be twice as large as a map that plays well with 32 players. Larger scale combat could be very exciting or a disaster if the maps are bad and / or servers are unable to handle the load. For that matter, with more players the resources needed for the game server also grow exponentially.

I guess getting back to my earlier rambling about gaming communities, perhaps the ones that have a higher end dedicated server will be able to separate themselves from the cheapo rentals by slot that never run very well with 24+ players because of overselling and skimpy allocation.

theres no such thing as higher end dedicated servers all you can get is cheapo rentals and those cheapo rentals are around $80-100 a month give or take.

Game servers - $1.20 a slot x 64 = 76 and change. add in taxes etc and it comes out to over $80 easy not exactly cheap and since no one has access to the server files no one can host a dedicated server other than companies approved by EA

Fragnet = $84

TrinityGames = $64 but they dropped prices due to BF4 arriving soon before that they were in the $80+ range.

Actually it's the subtle cheating that's the most damaging. The perfect example is tags. Tags are identifiers on other players that show details such as name and of course it gives away their location. These are viewable through objects and walls meaning you have eyes on everyone at all times.
That alone can make someone go from being an average player to someone being a 'great' player. Intentionally let yourself die a handful of times during a match and your end score of 98-22 doesn't look so bad.

Yes I am aware of all this and you are correct but I still feel like people jump to the hackclusion too quickly. In fact, I assume Orhan uses such 'subtle cheats' when it serves his needs. It would sure explain how is able to seemingly always find you on the map so easily to try and knife your ass when he wants to. But, of course, there is still a chance I am jumping to the wrong conclusion too.

I never knew that the licensed EA rentals were that restrictive, but I think NFO still lets you rent dedicated or semi-dedicated servers that are managed by them with the full assortment of games. Just for reference, I use to pay around $60 / month for a 12 slot private ut2k4 server from NFO.

Anyway it will be interesting to see what the performance is like with even more players.

Even tho my pc has no problem with the madness that is 64 player servers in bf3, I still find myself filtering just for 32 and less... 64 just always turns into a big old clusterf***

I would like 64 player servers more if bullets were not fired from peoples eyes and thus cover actually offered cover essentially on maps like Noshair you can hide behind the cement blocks and shoot people but due to collision detection on the bodies you need to get hella lucky to pop them in the dome which if there at 100% health takes a few bullets lol. Overall I like the idea of more people but shitty game design has me thinking its not gonna be that great.

In some ways they have moved forward with each game and gotten far better in other ways they have gone back 10 years

C4 sticks to parrachutes yet when attached to a moving vehicle and detonated it flies back and kills you , tactical flashlights interesting idea if there were actually dark maps, broad daylight it super blinds people and bullets turn 90 degrees and miss.

in BC2 C4 could be thrown thus it didnt stick to parrachuttes and it always stuck properly to vehicles, granted guns still fired from peoples eyes but server side hit detection on a decent server thats not overloaded ment everyone was pretty much equal in that it was a good game or everyone got screwed due to high ping players lol.

Eitherway not that excited for BF4 to many screwups and halfassed aspects in BF3 to inspire any confidence in BF4.

Everyone gets a hard on for Battlefield or CoD if thats there title and tends to buy every game, but if BF4 is just a better looking BF3 color me unimpressed. I will skip it and play other stuff.

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
I am going to say 64 is enough... too much perhaps. I say that because of the team oriented play/maps. I mean, its hard enough to get 4 people working together in a squad with another 28 people on a team working towards the same goal. COD style, surewhynot. :p

Even with its flaws, I personally do not have time to play much, so I am good with a better looking BF4. LOL!

Why you think that is because you are never on TS with the DN crew. 64 players is sooooo 2005.

Yeah, as Mailman said above, we tend to go in and own servers. Wrigley and Idaho were complaining about that a few posts up, even.

Tactics are everything, and we really work well together. We squad up, and roll over everyone. We usually end up dominating the top5 in full rounds.

What sucks is when we are on opposite teams, since we know each others tactics.

64 players on ANY map is way over the line, and turns a game of skill and tactics into pure zerg. No thanks. 48 is - in my opinion - where you can still do something without constantly getting raped by 5+ people from all directions or without clusterfucks forming everywhere. I am talking about large maps here, of course. Anything smaller or rush/TDM=32 at the most.

I might just be weird, though.

depends on the map. If youre looking at something like Metro then of course 64+ is too much. for more open maps though its fine.

Screw that. I want 300 players per server and 20 tanks jets and whatever else they can throw into the mix! I want the sky to turn black with blood and smoke of the burning bodies I have made mountains of. The Earth to tremble at the sound of tracks crushing the skulls of my enemies and to hear the lamentation of their women.......that and to not BSOD in BF4.

Curious about the easter egg story but of course it's an 8 minute video incl. an advertisement so I remain in the dark. Ain't nobody got time for that even were I not at work.

Apparently if you do a certain sequence of events in a specific place, the "backround" chatter will play a special message.

I was on TS with Reayth and Phenom when you went flying...EPIC...

Well I was playing last night and noticed you guys but did not actually join you all that time. But I appreciate you saying this...

Ended up on some other low populated CTF server with a bunch of noobs apparently because I went 12-0 in ten minutes mostly in a tank. Some was luck/right place right time. Kinda felt bad near the end heh.
