Yeah so I picked up a 4870 the other day but the thing is WAY too loud. Its ridiculously loud I don't know how Palit could even consider this acceptable. I can hear the damn thing from 3 rooms away! It has 2 fans on the card and for whatever sense this makes only 1 of the 2 fans is on the fan controller. So even if you turn the fan speed down to %20 the one fan still goes full bore! I considered unhooking the constant fan and just running the 1 variable fan but fear the heatsink design may have been built with two fans in mind and I don't want to overheat the card. The consistent fan is positioned over the voltage regulators also. I think one central fan would be better than just running one off to one side. I must say from what I've heard about 4870's this one does run cool so I'll give it that.
So basically I don't need something that's going to cool better just quieter because this one already does a great job with the cooling. I'm not overclocking I just want something that is acceptable. Put into perspective this card is 4 times louder than my reference 9600GT witch was nearly silent actually.
Thanks,
Jake
