Black Dragon 1066 2GB Kit

Hey guys, I just ordered some GEIL Black Dragons from the EGG and I was wondering If any of you here know exactly how good these sticks are. I know they are better than my current set, but Im just trying to see If I made a good purchase. I bought these for the sole purpose of OC ablity and the 32$ pricetag with free shipping. Im currently running a G.Skill 2GB kit of DDR2 1066 Now in comparison, how much of an OC can I get on the GEIL's compaired to my current OC of 1111mhz CL5-5-5-15 2T on my G.Shits. I heard that these sticks have no heatspreaders due to the fact that they dont need one, compared to others. Is that true? And does anyone here even have any experience with these sticks? I don't think they are that great, however putting some good heatspreaders on them will deffinitely help out with the temps while oc'ing. I've never seen a kit of black dragons over 1100mhz, though I'm sure they are out there.

I've used the Black Dragons for a few of my builds (for friends and clients) and they've been really good. Not to go against erocker's experience(s) but I've never found adding heatspreaders to aid them tbh, then again, the systems I've built have had really decent airflow over the sticks themselves.

i found using both helpful, hearspeadrs just take time to install, i prefer setting up a fan to blow on the RAM, like that Antec spotcool, right now using OCZ XTC.

Well I have the OCZ XTC ram cooler. Any experience with OCing them KBD?

I suppose the only really concerning thing is the amount of voltage needed for 1066. It lists 2.2 - 2.4 volts. If I were to get a set of these, I would see how much voltage they really need for 1066 first. Hopefully it will be less than 2.2v, and I remember seeing these at 2.1v at 1066 before on some good sticks. Since they actually allow you to go to 2.4 in the warranty, set them there, set the timings at 5 5-5-18 and see how high they clock.

yea, i had some nice overclocks, though a lot more depends on the kinda RAM you are using. Some RAM just runs very hot and requires some kinda cooling. Stuff like Redlines from Mushkin.

ket has a set of them they are rated high volt wise they only need 2v to do 1066 CL5

I can set those timing on my current ram.. is 18 better than 15 tRAS? Im not too keen on memory timings/ OC ability..

OK i have these G.Skills set @ 4-5-4-18 @ 1114mhz... is that any good compaired to the stock speed of 5-5-5-15 @ 1066mhz??

Run everest memory bench and find out. I said 5 5-5-18 because those timings are kinda on the loose side, common with most ram chips, and may allow for higher clocks as opposed to 5 5-5-15.

well i have the timings @ 4-5-4-15 @ 1114mhz rite now, I had them at 4-5-4-12 but windows will not boot..

I wish I had read this earlier as the BD's were on sale at Mwave or wherever but instead I went with GSkills because the customer reviews on the BDs weren't that good.
