Hi first post looks a nice site just wish i understood more of it
I could do with help please.
When i built my new rig when i was finished i noticed a little brown piece of metal at the bottom of the case i stuck it in the box and thought nothing of it.
The pc is running ok but my overdrive never works it always stops responding halfway through and resets.could this be the problem
I have just been looking at close up pictures of card and realised the piece of metal is a bit of my card i have taken it out and had a look and this is the bit thats missing.
Have i voided the warranty or can it be soldered back on bearing in mind i have never soldered in my life
Sorry for photo

Please take a look any help would be great
thanks

I'm afraid you have voided your warranty (as those doesn't just fall off, youll probobly never be able to proove that it is a fabrication fault) as for soldering, I wouldnt unless you have the proper equipment and proper skill. (aka mod-chip installation) so in your case, no.
btw, assume this is your card? could you take an even closer photo of it if possible? (use makro / flower button/selection) and the piece that is missing.

but most likely you have to buy a new card. sorry m8

If the card's blown up I say try soldering it. He voided the warranty and it's useless now..

Actually, that CAN be soldered back on. You will probably need some 965 flux solder (low or no residue so that it doesnt leave anything behind) and a little bit of 965 solder wire. Take that little diode, make sure its got the polarity right (on the board, there should be a silk screen that shows you the polarity. The thick white part of the silk screen usually indicates polarity and you look on the diode and match it up). Then, just take the flux (or flux pen) put just a dab on. Take your solder iron (750 Degrees) and the wire, touch a little bit to the diode and board and bam! instant fix. Be careful not to touch it too long or you will burn the diode and pcb. This is all assuming the diode is what came off (looks that way from the pic).

well i based soldering on the fact that he has never touched a soldering iron.. :p but yiu have to use a low effect iron (15w or something) with a needle tip and be very careful not to short circuit something,

the warrenty isnt void, just dont mention that bit is missing, just say the card doesnt work ;) bit underhanded but it was a dodgy process the card had, y should u have to pay for a new card for somethin that wasnt your fault?
