well, i'm pretty sure multi-threaded games will come out now... a good example of i7 > E8400 is GTA IV

But you wont notice that very small performance increase since your graphics card will be the bottleneck at every setting.

The combination of a E8400 and HD 4870 is way better than an i7 and HD 4830

I think people don't get the intention I have for my rig... I want to be on budget NOW and have a medium graphic card... Also, I am very NEW to gaming, so I am still in those old games like Company of Heroes. Once I'll be more into gaming, I will probably be playing more graphic demanding games, and only then will I buy a very good card to match my i7. Also, the i7 will be better with the graphics card later on, when tech advances (since I want to keep this rig) and therefore will be a better option if you want to upgrade later :)

And to add to your comment; If you wish to add an additional 4830 you can and perform better than that single 4870. xD

oh, but as I was saying... I prefer to get a 4830 now... then later on when I'm crazily into gaming, I'll go with a better card (like a gtx 295... or I'll be creative and try a 4870 (not x2) in tri-sli :O is it possible???)

Count me in. If u already have a 4830 you can get almost twice the performance by buying another 4830 than spending twice as more for a 4870 and less performance than 4830 CF. lol

I am all about the GTX295 IF you can afford it. But just my .02, 4830's in crossfire (lowest), GTX260's in SLI (middle) or single GTX295 (high as in can add another) seem the most budget minded.

oh, btw I don't have this rig yet... and another 2 setbacks have come. Our family is probably not going back to NJ for awhile (usually we did every 2~3 months but its already been ~6 months! and another 1~2 months to wait >.<) and yesterday I got into a big fight with my dad... but then we always have some and usually everything is back to normal within a week (looking like 3 days now...)

btw Jr, what MoBos have quad sli (for eventual gtx 295 quad sli) compatibility?

I take that back any board that would support SLI. Which mobo? Link me again ....

He's bulding i7 which means it's an X58 which all X58 support SLI which means Quad-SLI works which means I think he'll new psu for that...

yea he's right lol... anyways it was in my 1st post o_O Cpu+MoBo

Well my dreams are becoming true? :O

Yea a new PSU for sure I guess... I heard it takes 700~800watts o_O

with the things I have there... is 750W enough for a single gtx 295? how much do I need for 2x gtx 295 to get the power it needs in there?

Just was confirming, and no I would go with at least a 1KW to make sure you have some headroom (if you do plan on going GTX295).

Single GTX295 would be fine. But you were talking of possible 295 in SLI.

You will need to rob a bank, that is what you will need.

2x gtx 295 is overpriced and not needed for performance, a single card is enough and over kill already.

You could probably buy a graphics card that will perform beter than an SLI 295 for cheaper in about 2 years, so you may as well buy one now, and a new card in two years.

okok... but remember gtx 295 will be much cheaper in 2 years, hence making buying a second gtx 295 for quad sli probably cheaper as a solution then another card

okok... but remember gtx 295 will be much cheaper in 2 years, hence making buying a second gtx 295 for quad sli probably cheaper as a solution then another card

In two years the GTX 295 would most likely be reduced to a low end or midrange card.

People said the same thing about the 8800 GT almost three years ago. Sure the 8800 GT is cheaper but you can get cards for cheaper or the same price which are much faster, e.g. ATI 4830.

Just because you put quad SLI it doesn't mean 4x the performance, it some situations you may reduce performance. No doubt in 2-3 years a single card will perform faster than your SLI or quad SLI setup.

Your throwing money away on a gamble.

well idk, but I still want to keep my options open... sure tech advances fast now.... (btw will it later? I'm sure we will hit a stagnant period at one point) But I want my gtx 295 to last me a good amount of time, since I usually get stuck on the same game for years. BUT, if suddenly game tech advances very fast in the near future, I still can compete with a quad sli if its a better choice, even though the possibility of that happening is VERY LOW!

I understand now that 2x gtx 295 is a bad idea, but I still feel gtx 295 is a good buy, since it'll last me a long time. Also, remember I am buying the 4830 for now, and once, and only once I become more of a serious gamer. will I buy a higher end card. I might settle for 4830 SLI for another x amount of months/years... there I speak of the gtx 295, but I will probably never buy it... I am just referring it as a high end card later on, since the gtx 295 will be surpassed once I buy a very good card.

but ty for pointing out these things for me :) (btw I'm tired so I might contradict myself xD)

The 4830 is enough, it can probably go to mid 2010 playing games at high settings without any problems, I doubt you'll need to go from a 4830 to an gtx 295 if you're just a casual gamer.

SLI isn't "keeping your options open", the only time SLI/Crossfire tends to be useful is if you buy 2x4830s because it will be cheaper and faster than a GTX 260. So in essence crossfire should be used on two midrange cards to make it powerful than a high end card for cheaper. e.g. 2x9800GTX+ might perform better than a GTX 280 for ALOT cheaper.

Remember in 2012 there might not be any new drivers for the gtx 295, let alone SLI drivers.

Quad SLI gtx 295 =:slap:

thxs :) so I will probably go with a 4830... then SLI it later... and maybe tri-SLI it? is that a good idea? or by then it'll be so old it won't be worth it? xD

EDIT: is tri SLI even worth it at all? I'm probably not going to anyways... just curious :)

EDIT2: anyone know approximately what 3dmark 06 score I'll get with this but with a 4830 SLI? Surprise me :p

There is nothing wrong with SLI, but as I said you don't SLI high end cards, you SLI cheap midrange cards to perform better than the high end cards (for cheaper)

I think you need to forget this SLI business, you'll be happy with the ATI 4830, if you're worried about longevity get a premium card like the ATI 4870, GTX 260. But I think the 4830 will be more than enough.

I've been using my 9600 GT for a year now, plays all my games high detail, 4x AA @1440x900 with a crappy 3800+ X2 @ 2.8 GHz, I get around 45-80 FPS on GRID, Tombraider Underworld, Assassins Creed, COD:WAW etc.

My system isn't as fast as the one you are putting together and I feel that I can go another year with my 9600 GT before I'm forced to move to medium settings.

Edit:

Remember in two years time crossfiring your 4830 into a 2x4830 is pointless because in two years a single 4830 will not be midrange it will be low end, so there is little point crossfiring two low end cards. However today to crossfire a 4830 is wise as it will perform between a GTX 260 and GTX 280 for alot cheaper :)
