Can't get my WB200UX6G8 @ DDR3 2000mhz 8-8-8-24

So i can't get my WB200UX6G8 working @ 2000mhz 8-8-8-24 on my mobo.

Asus P6X58D Premium (with latest bios)
Super Talent WB200UX6G8
enermax liberty eco ii 720watt
hd 5970

If I select the XMP-2000 profile in the bios my pc doesn't boot up anymore. tried setting them manually but i get the same result.

So what am i doing wrong?

My guess is voltages. I'm not too savvy on X58, but for me to run 2K speeds I need more QPI/VTT volts.

Get info from an X58 user as to which you change on the X58 as I know they are separated in the X58 bios'.

Sneeky is right, though on the Asus board it is listed as QPI voltage.

What qpi voltage are you using when you do it manually? You should be setting vdimm to 1.65v if you can with that board. If you don't have that option set them to 1.66v and ignore the bios freak out because you went over 1.65v. Just make sure you keep qpi and vdimm with in .5v (I prefer .4v to be on the safe side).

i set qpi dram core to 1.425v
and dram bus voltage to 1.65v but still the pc restarts before entering windows or freezes in prime95.
if i select the XMP-2000 profile the bios sets:
qpi dram: 1.6v
dram bus voltage: 1.65v
which also doesn't work.

Are these both using a bclk of 133mhz?

Do you set command rate to 2N and set tRFC at the highest setting?

I'm guessing the XMP profile doesn't define qpi voltage like some do. Best way I would suggest is set the ram to something like 1600mhz with all auto timings. Then up the uncore until you reach 4ghz. That should give you an idea of what kind of qpi voltage you'll need to get to 2000 ram and 4ghz uncore.

Either way it will take some time and learning your 920 for what voltages it wants and such. I would suggest that you put memtest 86+ on a cd or usb drive and boot to that when trying to figure out settings. That way you'll be able to see your errors you're getting without messing up your windows install.

I would go here for some quick understanding of what errors could mean what so you don't have to start in the dark.

pc restarts while running prime95.

forgot to say my cpu is an i7 930.

why do you assume the restart is the ram? Is this a new build, or you just set this ram on a rig you had other ram running in already?

I can't get them to run higher then this without them restarting while running Prime95.
Tried everything I can think of but nothing. any ideas what to do next?

What voltages do you need for that?

Make sure you have c states, disable bit, tm function, speed step, and both speed spectrums disabled in the bios. They can all wreak havoc to a stable overclock with them disabled.

i gave up trying to get 2000+ cas 7,8 on mine so i got me a R3E

i can run 2000 9-9-9-24-72 but it needs to be in 3n 1n-2n it wont boot or make it in to windows

Stock ram speed for x58 is 800/1066DDR3 only. You may not be able to get 2000mhz stable...it's almost a 100% overclock on memory control.

The fact that some chips CAN run this speed is amazing in and of itself.

As far as I've understood it, the 1366 i7 that can't run 4ghz uncore/2ghz ram is the exception.

Though getting there is a balance between voltages and spending a lot of time staring at memtest. Also how much vvt a chip needs plays in to it too. Some just stop because the vvt needed is getting insane.

i'm not trying to OC the pc as i have intel's stock cooling for now. just want to see the memory running @ rated speeds. so what are my options?

try a higher memory divider and watch the voltage you ad or youll just get too hot and it will shutdown

Second Thought: maybe that whats going on when your running prime, your on stock cooling i wouldnt suggest you overclock anything with it,not even that ram

Final Thought: I'll tell you my voltages and what i run so maybe it will give you a ballpark of what you may need.

First off im using a Xeon W3520 & Gskill Tridents. Cpu is @ 4Ghz and the memory 2000mhz CL8. Go to your QPI selection and choose 4.8 G/t's manually ,and set your uncore to double your mem divider

DRAM 1.65v

ok i know this is a stupid question but: can i expect to get 2000mhz if i OC my system?

even before i bought this pc i was thinking about overclocking it.
thinking about ordering a CM V8 cooler.

You tried 1.675v?

You should be able to do 1600 CL6-6-6 with ease @ 1.65v, try that first.

I've got 10GB of this stuff, two sticks of 2200 CL8 and three sticks of 2000 CL7.

ok i'm now trying the settings. for now i was able to get them working @ 6-7-6-18 @ 1.65v, qpi dram 1.3v Prime95 10h stable, LinX 20 runs
i will know soon enough

tested the ram @ 6-6-6-16 1600mhz and it's stable. prime95 12h stable
