Changing to AHCI mode

I Have a single Sata hard drive and have been using it in ide mode for as long as i can remember, i know about AHCI mode but just never bothered with it, however yesterday i thought i'd try it out and after installing the drivers and a few reboots it seems to be working fine. Thing is when i finally got back into windows it told me i needed to reactivate it (no problem i just phoned them up) as i have changed a major piece of hardware.

Why did it do this when i haven't actually replaced anything?
Its all fine now but just curious.

imagin when you get vista, you get 5 times b4 you gotta call them and hope they let you re-acctovate, if they dont, well you can use up ur one system transfer to get 5 more times:O

oh btw i use windows but xp/vista are CRAP!!!!

im no windows hater, i just hate DRM and ms's bullsh!t acctivation crap
