Cherry MX switches like IBM Model M?

Good reading. Das keyboard is modeled after the Model M. I recommend that for you.

Oh, and to answer your question, probably blacks or reds. It uses a buckle spring. I have never used an M myself, but if there is a click could be whites (lesser known.)

Das is not modeled after the Model M at all. No Cherry switch is close to Model M, really.
You might be looking for Unicomps. Or Topres if you have too much money :)

the unicomps aren't back lit, and I've also heard anecdotal stories about that company seemingly always near bankruptcy.

torpres are interesting, but that's in the "silly money" range, sadly.

Yeah, I guess their Model S is in no way inspired by the Model M.

Maybe it would be more accurate to have said inspired rather than modeled.

And he didnt want the same switches as the Model M obviously, just something that would be similar.
