Hey everyone,

I just built a core 2 system and have had it running stable for about a week. Most of the system info can be found at http://www.techpowerup.com/ocdb/details.php?id=239
After moving the computer from my college apartment back to my house for Christmas break, It will not boot up. When I hook at all up, as soon as I flip the power supply switch to on, the computer will turn on, make its standard beep sound, then turn off in about 5 seconds. After this it will try and boot again will once again shutoff but stay off. Its weird that it would try and boot without me touching the power button on my case. I removed and reseated the connection for the case switch but with the same result, and I also tried booting it with the wire from the case power button not attached to the motherboard, same thing happens.

Here is a list of things I have already tried which have not helped at all:
Hooked up a different power supply
Tried different ram sticks in different slots, different configurations
cleared the cmos

I am thinking something may be wrong with the motherboard. I have a Gigabyte 965p-DS3 rev 2.

Do you guys have any suggestions? Is an RMA in order or should I try some more things first?

I don't think it would be anything hard drive related because its not like bios loads and it doesn't detect the drives and then windows won't load. It doesn't have time to get through a complete post before restarting. Whats weird is, the very first time I booted it here, the computer almost made it into windows before shutting off. Now it doesn't even get close.

Seen this before, you could have dammaged the HDD. Check all cables and make sure the are properly inserted along with the memory. If that doesn't do it then try another HDD.

Because they want you to buy another hard drive from them.

I see you have the Sunbeam Nuuo, do you have the little temp monitor and fan controller hooked up to it? If so, disconnect it. I have the same PSU, and when you use that thing, the computer will do exactly what you said. It's worth a shot at least.

Thanks for the tip Wile but I tried that and it still did not fix the problem. I have had the thermal sensors hooked up to the PSU for a long time anyway and they have never caused me any trouble. The only thing I can really think that it could be is something with the motherboard or a faulty switch on my case maybe? The unit behaves the same whether or not the wires for the power switch or connected or disconnected to the motherboard. The system does not wait for me to press the power switch, as soon as the power supply is flipped from 0 to 1 it try booting and fails, then occasionally will try booting again before staying off. I really don't think hard drives have anything to do with the problem as you should be able to get into bios fine regaurdless of whether hard drives are attached or not.

Ok Situation Update: I moved my mobo, cpu and ram to a different case with a new power supply and new hard drive. The same thing still happens, as soon as the power supply switch is flipped, the system turns on regardless of whether or not i have pressed the power button on the case. I built my girlfriend a computer with basically the same mobo, an s3 instead of ds3. I am thinking I will try my cpu and ram in hers and if it all works ok, then RMA my Mobo. Does this sound reasonable, any suggestions?

nvm, I didn't read your post correctly.

Looks like it's a mobo issue.

Yeah, rma time. I didn't pick up on the fact that it turns on without the power button.
