I'm pretty sure that is an audio out. Cuz your audio card is meant to produce sound, not transfer it from a ps3 to speakers.

I don't think In and Out will both work at the same time, but I might be wrong.

To test if the sound goes to the speakers thru the Optical out from the sound card, play a music file on the pc to see if you can hear it on the speakers.

other thing is did you look into the control panel of the soundcard drivers? might be a check box to enable the optical out connection.

I hate to say it but every spec I look up for the Xtreme Gamer doesn't even show an Optical In or Out on the card. It does mention digital out but only digital out. Are you sure this is the correct card version?

For instance.

Double check settings in the PS3 and see if there is anything you need to select for Audio Out.
And like suraswami said, play an mp3 file and see if the pc plays through the speakers while connected to the PS3 as well.
@ El Fiendo, it was like that for me too, but I found one on amazon that had them both.

The FlexiJack on Xtreme Gamer handles digital audio through an optical connection, not co-axial. You probably connected a coaxial SPDIF connection to Flexijack.

Also, XtremeGamer has no digital input from its available connectors.

The main issue is that you are trying to use a digital cable, when your speakers are analogue. Trying to connect the PS3 to your PC will only output stereo at best, so you'd be better off eliminating the PC from the equation and connecting the Logitech’s directly into the Red and White audio outputs on the TV using a 3.5mm to RCA converter.

Alternatively

The best way and realistic way to deal with this issue to buy a home theatre in a box, that way you can connect the PC's soundcard directly to the receiver's digital-input. Likewise the PS3 will also connect to the receivers secondary digital-input, and you can switch between the PS3 and PC when needed via the remote. Also this way you'll get playback of Dolby Digital from the PS3's supported game titles, opposed to stereo using other methods.

just as an example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882120140

Logitech Z-5500 are also good for this

misinformation

nearly all of these responses are ASSUMING its a reference card, and are making assumptions that are incorrect. the x-fi xtremegamer card does in fact support optical in and out, but NOT REFERENCE DESIGN. this means that he got an aftermarket card, possibly from dell (the same card I have) and does in fact support optical input from the ps3. to enable sound through the sound card, a few steps are required. first, I dont know why, but the only way I can get optical input to work is to load the games mode in the Creative Console Launcher, then un-mute optical input and increase the volume. next go into the ps3's settings for sound, and select optical output. I must note though, that this sound card will NOT support DTS, or Dolby Digital 5.1, if that is an output for a game or movie. I had recently tried to connect a ps3 to my sound card and found out these problems.
as for the person mentioning digital signal to analog speakers.... (facepalm):shadedshu yes, ALL speakers are analog, but its the DAC in the sound card that converts digital signal into analog the speakers can use. to get surround, your biggest option is to take advantage of the simulated surround sound that the x-fi series supports, called cmss-3d. it should be set to CMSS-3D Surround with 100% surround mode. its not perfect, but it does a good job for games.
I know this thread is very old, but there are sill people that are trying to resolve this issue, and there is very few threads with accurate information that helps for this problem.

I investigated this intensively earlier in the year....
It's not on my "To Do" list right now, but I may complete it later this yr.

You'll see that there may be a few solutions for S/PDIF-in DD/DTS 5.1 decode.
There are a few caveats etc. of course, but not necessarily deal breakers.

if your using windows 7, you need to enable playback of recording devices in the sound options.

open sound manager and goto recoding. then right click on HD recoding or Optical and change it to enable playback.
