Convert vob files into mp4 (chromecast)

I have draged the files from videos (dvd's) on to my pc, now i need to convert them from vob into mp4 video so i can watch it using my chromecast (have bought my first media server).

My problem is i want it converted into one video i can click on and press play, because it's chromecast it has to be mp4 but most programs i have tried like handbreak makes the video smaller or bigger then the original size on the dvd or just converts the 10-15 vob files into 10-15 mp4 files, not one file i can click on and play. I want it losless not compromised

After that i can start ripping dvd's in mp4 instead of just draggin the files into a folder and right click on the folder and choose to play it with vlc.

What program can do that? I want a free program but if i have to i will pay for it if it's a good program that's better then all the free program, as long as it works, convert the video into one video file in mp4

Try DVD FAB or Convert X to DVD I know DVD FAB can change them into MP4's at least, not sure about the rest though, but a great program.

At the moment i try any video converter, just want my videos converted into one file which any video converter can and losless,just not shure it's 100% losless and then rip dvds in the future into one file again with out any loss of quality.

Any one that has experience with the pro version that costs 39.95$?

you wont be able to do it lossless, unless you're happy to deal with gigantic files.

use handbrake, find settings you're ok with the quality and go with that.

Handbrake is not good enough, the size of the video is either to small using standard value 20 in video/Quality and choose losless a videos get's much bigger then it actually is.

Problem is that i can't get the same size of the video as on the dvd using handbrake, with any video converter i somtimes i can't get bit rate high enough (sound), i can choose som video bitrate but often the original video bitrate is different on the dvd file then i can choose in any video converter.

I don't want to have to choose video bit rate,sound bitrate and samplerate that are not the same as in the video.

I just want to change it into 1 video i can play using chromecast,not change the quality of the sound.piture, connect my phone (android) to chromecast and my nas server, find the video on my phone and play it on my tv

what you're asking for cant be done. you're going to need to tune in the handrake settings manually to find a compromise you're happy with.

you simply cannot transfer DVD content to .mp4 without re-encoding the video.

come on tpu this one is easy all he wants todo is take VOB and merge them into a single playable file a VOB is just a MPeg 2 at heart

make sure you add the FIRST file and use append and ensure you get the order correct
no need to re-encode anything if all hes doing is playing the resulting file with VLC/MPC-HC/streaming it tho he can always pop the merged mkv into hand break and compress it further

if he's converting to .MP4 for chromecast, it needs to be H264 video and stereo AAC or MP3 audio. DVD's do not use those formats, so merely changing the container to MP4 will not work.

depends on what hes streaming with if hes using VLC with the transcode option or anything that supports on the fly transcoding then the output doesn't matter
two pass CRF 22 should grant him the same quality as dvd without any noticeable loss
handbrake in my experience is frankly terrible at everything
it tries to be a do it all and ends up doing nothing particularly well
@op if you need a SINGLE mp4 file do this
1. merge the VOB's into a single file making sure you are using the proper order
2. import the outputted MKV into the encoder/converter of your choice
3. select 4.2 HIGH--MAIN @ two pass CRF 20 to 22(the higher the crf the lower the quality and vice versa)
4. set the audio to 192/256Kbit/s AAC
5. set the output container to MP4 optionally you can keep it MKV

judging by the fact he wants .mp4, i doubt he's real time transcoding and wants native playback support. as for the encoding... i'm with you, but he seems to not like the idea of compressed files despite it being the only real solution to his request.

I am using a Synology DS214 server for storage/backup and as a media to stream films to chromecast and my tv, i need to have my videos in mp4 if i want to play it with chromecast (if i can play it with a usb cable i don't know, havn't found out if it's possible), i want best possible sound and picture quality from my dvd's, i can watch more or less every youtube video using my chromecast and my tv.

If i want to watch movies,music videos i have downloaded from youtube,(i always try downloading youtube videos in 1080p or what highest quality without going higher then 1080p is, nothing more i can do then that to watch youtube videos in the best quality) i have something like 50% in flv, that's to bad, when i started downloading youtube videos there wasn't any chromecast that only supports video's in mp4 so many videos is in flv (vlc wil paly just about every type of video)

I would like to use vlc but i havn't seen that it's possible to use it with a synolgy nas server and chrome cast, my tv is a panasonic 42" g20

Handbrake with Film 1080P preset settings is just about the best quality you're going to get without an hour long video beng approx 8GB in size.
It will recode the videos, and take a long time, but the video and audio will be near identical to the source. I use an RF of around 15 though, I find 19-20 to be a bit lacking for BluRay video. Just ensure you select the correct FPS using MediaInfo, and don't use "same as original" or audio will be out of sync.
Just use the MP4 container with x264 and the audio encoding that chromecast supports, and you'll be golden.

MakeMKV Beta will rip videos from DVDs to an MKV without any kind of mad compression. Just select the video clip you want and the audio track you want mixed in with it and leave it to rip it.

You wont have to paste together any clips or videos from the DVD, it does that for you when you get to video item selection. It's pretty basic and quick, doesn't break quality, and unless you don't pay attention, it's very difficult to rip incorrectly.

Extremly easy to use.

It seems like it never really starts, waiting for conversion mabye after 2-3 min conversion progress is still 0.0%, i have an i7 4790k cpu and i used HD-MPEG-4 Video (.mp4) settings, using HD - H.264 Video (.mp4) settings just under 50kb is converted in 1 min
