Your chip can certainly handle it, I got my old E6850 to 4.3gig. It is most likely some other motherboard/ram settings that is preventing you from pushing ahead, to know which however, can you let me know the following info:

VCore
memory divider and current speed
Memory timings
Memory Voltage
NB Voltage
FSB voltage

That will do to start with!

I just got it running at 3.79GHz and these are the settings
Vcore = 1.42V

Memory: Freq. = 420.0MHz (FSB:DRAM: 1:1), tCL: 5.0 Clocks, tRCD: 5 Clocks, tRP 5 Clocks, tRAS 15 Clocks. 1.8V

NBv & FSBv were do i find this out?

In your BIOS :) most likely set at AUTO if you have not touched them

So in part you have answered your own question, if you want 4gig for example, you will need to hit around 1.5V on Vcore, your NB voltage will need to be 1.5V+, if you have the FSB voltage option you will need to increase that a little from the auto stock reading, couple all of that with ensureing that you add another mem divider to ensure that is not a factor and you should be away......

It will probably be your memory. You would need more than 1.8v to get to 840mhz 5-5-5-15. I'd try setting 2.1v for the memory, and then see how much further you get.

To test the stability of your ram, download Memtest86+. You burn it to a disk, and it lets you check that your memory is stable before booting into windows. Potentially saving you from a corrupt hard drive. (If you're in a bit of a hurry, skip strieght to test 5. Config - 1 - 3 - 5 - Enter - 0)

Icant get the Bus speed Faster than 420GHz my Ram dosent seem to handle any thing more than 840GHZ Even with the Volts right up, is there any way to change the Ratio of the FSB : DRam:confused:

Wait a min. I see what's going on.

Ok.. the multiplier for the e6850 is 9x. Unless you manually turn off speedstep, the multiplier will drop when there is little/no load on the cpu unless you dissable this feature (C1E in cpu configuration).

420 x 9 = 3.78GHz

Try running it at 400mhz fsb, 1.40v, which should give you 3.6ghz.

In CPU Configuration:
CPU Ratio Control - manual - 9x
CIE Support - dissabled

Also, see if you can up the voltage to the memory to about 2.0v, and test it with memtest86.

Cool done that it seems to be running the Ram sweet at 800MHz with a 1:1 Ratio, i gess if i want to go any higher with the FSB i have to get some DDR2 1066 Ram :(

no, you can just change the ratio.

For example, if your fsb is set to 400mhz, and you set the memory to 500mhz (1000mhz), it will apply a 4:5 divider, which seems to work extremly well on the Intel P35 chipset. To get your memory to run at 1000mhz, you will probably need approximatly 2.2v - 2.3v. Keep in mind though that 2.3v is harmful to the memory over a long period of time, so find the lowest voltage that it's stable at ;)

Again, test memory at any new settings with memtest before you boot into windows. When you're in windows, download Orthos, and run the cpu stress test for about 30-60 mins to check the cpu is stable at that frequency and voltage. Also, download CoreTemp, to make sure the cpu temperature is safe. You don't wanna be going over 65c. If it's stable, or too hot, reduce the voltage a little at a time. You're looking for minimum voltage for it to run stable, just like with the memory.

You're getting there! :D

I'd probably say don't go above 65c. Use coretemp to check it. ;)

duelkay said:

Don't believe this temp. Use the temps read by coretemp, which reads the temperatures streight from the cores. The "cpu temp' which is read by the motherboard is usually 10-20c below the real temperature.

Hmm, if the bios is the same as my P5K Deluxe, then it will be DRAM Frequency. Just change that to 500mhz, job done :) It doesn't list the dividers so you have to work it backwards from the numbers. IE 400mhz fsb 4:5 500mhz ram (400 / 4 = 100 x 5 = 500) It works the other way as well, so you can work out what fsb you would need to get to a certain dram frequency at with a certain divider :)

your CPU is at 12 degrees, really, do you use phase change, or TEC?

It's WRONG!!!!

No cooling system apart from a TEC or phase change can go BELOW ambient temperature, and TBH the thermaltake bigwater system is only an entry-level watercooling system.

thats exactly what I was gonna say as soon as I got a response. The system at best can only go as low as ambient, and the bigwater is water, but its not that great.

i think the sensor is giving you bad reads. What software are you using to monitor that?
