CounterStrike:Source Is it good?

CC:S is $5 on steam, I was wondering if it's a good game. Or is it just dominated by people that have been playing for years and will rape me.

If you mean Counter Strike Source, well I don't know, even though I have it. I'm sure that not too many seasoned veterans go to public servers and play with people they don't know. Playing just for fun on public servers, you should have some fun no question, but if you get into the competitive scene, like any game, you will find yourself getting fragged every so often
For me, I personally would spend my $5 elsewhere.

TF2 is more fun than CS:S will ever be. Even if TF2 was still $20 or $30, it would still be worth every penny.

CS:S is pretty good as far as base idea and design goes. Special forces vs terrorists in hostage saving or bomb defusing missions. Only and the biggest problem with this game is that netcode is absolutelly ridiculously shitty. Weapons hits work like the wind blows, most of the time it blows like a hurricane with loads of idiotic situations where you should score a kill but you don't. Or they kill you in some idiotic way too often. There is an alternative to this by adjusting rates but i found out in the end i spend more in the damn console than in the actual game just to get 2 hours of playable game and then it returns to the same crappy way of registering hits as it did before i fiddled with the rates. I wouldn't mind this if i didn't know that bunch of other and even older games work just fine without adjusting a single thing.

The game works great on LAN though, where rates don't matter much. There it plays like it should. But online, its a bag of mixed experience. Deathmatch servers are fun to chill out by just gunning down as much ppl as you can without bothering with cash and deaths as you're back in the action as soon as you die.

For 5 bucks i'd say it's worth it even if you play just DM.

Yeah, I used to play 1.6 a loooong time ago. I ended up getting CS: Condition Zero. I got The original counter strike for free! It was only $2

You used to be able to play custom servers with custom maps and stuff such as a Superhero server where you can level up by getting kills and choosing different powers but idk if they have that anymore.

Deagle only servers are fun as well though there aren't many around or at least i couldn't find any.

Good servers will force the proper rates for you.

you wont stand a chance with a controller vs keyboard/mouse players, ive never got how people play first person shooters with a game pad.

Ive got the game, Ive had it for many years. i havent really played it a lot. I only play it when friends are playing and the friend who used to play a lot moved to a different time zone. so stopped playing which means i havent touched the game in 5years.

Its an alright game. not as good as TF2 and such which is grossly more fun.

The game is AWESOME i love it, but be prepared to DIE alot at the start, this is not for noobs, you gotta be good, if you think your good at COD then you will be shit at CS:S.

Ive got over 700hrs on this game, its alot of fun if you put in the time to get good at it.

Play well at this game and you be even better in other FPS's

I've played a lot of FTP Shooters that are a lot like it, It's just challenging with a trackpad. I'm still waiting on my mobo from newegg.

They ALL played like crap. Only server that was ever good was some french one (probably since it had FR and pl were screaming "merde" on it ). The ping was quite high compared to others (70-80), but it played incredibly well. Every hit was properly registered and only few awkward situations ever happened. The best netcode i've ever used was in UT99 considering its age. And still is if i take Killing Floor as an example. Bunch of players and hundreds of monsters everyone have to see in the same spot and it's still bang on unless the ping is slightly higher where you get a constant delay. But once you get used to it it plays fine.

I can back his statement up by saying I have no idea what you're talking about. I've never had troubles fragging or getting hits/headshots in CSS and I've been playing for years.

Across multiple servers, and computers.

CSS is very hard, because it's not about spraying and jumping and teleporting your knife into the nearest target within 350 degrees around you (Call of Duty).

Unless you've played before, you will get very frustrated because it's difficult to learn when you get one shot every round and have to wait 1-2 minutes to try again, only to get one shot.

There is no tutorial either. It's all about accuracy and being the quickest to pull the trigger.

I love CSS, and I loved 1.6. It's really the only FPS that gauges skill, so if you're a competitive player and you want a challenge you will love it.

Thread makes me want to download it from steam. LOVE CS.. Anyone remember on 1.6 when the office map had a door at the end of the hallway the CT guys had to open to come into the rest of the complex?

Counterstrike 1.6 and Source can be pretty tough mainly because it's barebone, you have no individual classes or special guns that slow people down or medics. Everybody picks the gun of their choice and the rest is handled by their own skill.

The thing about CS is that it can be very hard for new people to get into it because you need to bare in mind that the people that play both 1.6 and Source are generally people who have refined and developed their skills in that game and know the maps and guns like the back of their hands.

Definitely give it a try though, just don't be surprised if you keep getting shot in the head from out of no where a bunch of times. lol
