Ok, so this is what I know. I woke up to my GPU reving 100% and no output on the screen. I opened up my case and saw that (i guess) some seal on the cpu's cooling had broken. I took the upper GPU out and i poured a good amount of liquid out of it. It's 100% dead. Next i hoped nothing else had broken, I took out the CPU cooler not to make it any worse, and put the 2nd card in the primary slot just to see if all that was needed was a new cpu cooler. Same thing happened, so I took an old 5870 I had laying around. Same thing again. So the motherboard needs to be replaced.

Should I get a new 1366 mobo and hope the CPU survived and put the 5870 in for now, or should I get a 1155 mobo and 2600k CPU? Any thoughts? I know it's not much info, but like I said, I woke up to it.
Budget is kind of tight, so i'll likley use the 5870 for now, but I need a new mobo and probably CPU. What about the RAM? No water on it that I could see..
What's good? I need a lot of SATA both internaly and on the back. Other than that I don't really have any requirments, but a large mobo is to preferr (so I can fit a large cooler) I have GT fans laying around so I only need the cooler. Also some OC ability would be nice (around 4ghz).

Usually when gpus get soaked they short out on the pcb and whatnot.
I'm thinking that your cpu should be alright. Have you pulled it to see if any water got in the socket?
At any rate, you can pick up a 1366 fairly cheap these days. Cpu too. I think it'd be overall cheaper to go that route.

I haven't pulled cpu itself, but it looks dry. The water mostly dripped down onto the mobo and GPU's.
I just don't want to buy a new mobo only to find the CPU doesn't work anyway you know.. Maybe I should just upgrade the mobo/cpu and wait with GPU. I still have that 5870, and maybe, just maybe the 2nd 6950 still works?

Whats a good 1155 mobo with plenty of SATA? (I'm using 6 internal atm). I guess that's not an issue these days at 6x SATA is pretty much standard. But any ideas?

edit/ You think the RAM made it? I don't know anyone that is into PC's (damn xbox!) so I can't really go to someone else to try..

What kind of CPU cooler was it? maybe you can get the manufacture to buy you a new board.

Please let me know the manufacture of the cooler.

You can usually pick up a decent 1366board for less than $100. You can most likely get a 920 for less than $200. That about the cost of just the SB cpu.

At any rate, regarding boards, I havent really kept up onwhats good for SB. Although Ive heard really good things about the Gigabyte boards. A friend of mine swears by them. Not to mention theyre the only manufacturer that makes a TRUE, not dyed, black PCB.

CoolIT.. But I don't have the patience to deal with manufacturers like that.. The cooler was only about 1½-2 years old. Seals should not break after that imo.. At first I thought about buying an all air cooler, but I just hate the size of them lol. I think i'll get a H60.

I'd use this as a excuse to upgrade to 1155 if I was you.

Yeah, it's exactly what I was thinking to be honest, I just needed to hear it from someone else so I could upgrade with a clear coincidence ;D And I'm seriously considering jumping ship and getting a nVidia card while I'm at it.
My only worry is the cooling. Seems most reference designs pushes all the hot air into the case? (580).

This is the only "rear pushing" card I could find. Remember that I'm Swedish and don't have a massive choice of shops.. http://www.dustinhome.se/zotac-gefo...-dvi-hdmi-prince-of-persia/product/5010543903

This is it basically. http://www.prisjakt.nu/search.php?query=gtx+580

Also note that not all shops have the other stuff I want at all, or there is a several month wait because they don't have it all in stock.. So there is that to.

I would look for any damage on all parts. The PC boards on all parts will show burning if volts got high. Also take the chip from the socket and look at both. Are there any burn marks on the socket? If no look at the pins on the chip. If that is also good give it a day or two to dry . And remember don't f# with a dead rig untill you know its dead.

pictures are better than words. post some pictures of your misery :(

also you should shoot a PM to the manufacturer of the cooler which leaked.

since its an intel, and they are really good at taking heat, i think it should survive. but chances are less as u mention your system was still running.

doesnt intel have some sort of safety feature which switches off on exceeding a certain temperature?

try put the board off from the case so you can inspect it better, liquid may cause shortcircuit. so if it short it may leave burnt trace or something unusual, if its ok you can dry the board under the sunlight.
although it looks dry there could liquid left under capacitors, vrm that not visible

Haha go CoolIT. I've received 4 bad Ecos from them in a row. 2 from Directron (one had a loose object inside the pump/block mechanism, other had a beat up radiator) and 1 from Newegg that looked used, and one just recently from NCIX for a friend where the mounting was borked and one corner refused to screw in by hand or by screwdriver. This is the same company that denied responsibility when a bunch of their Domino units exploded. Overall, I would stay far, far away from CoolIT, which is the same company that also manufactures the Corsair H60, H80, and H100 coolers.
