Hey everyone!

Last year we added VIA to the CPU Database, and since then I've only tracked down a few chips to put in that category. In case you didn't know, VIA was never the best about cataloging their CPU offerings. Especially not early on. They opted to fly by night and just release chips left, right, and center with little to no fanfare, often times running three to four concurrent generations of processors right over each other. This makes it incredibly difficult to track down and itemize specifications for all of these models of processors, as there is no central database to pull from...

Which is where OUR database should come in! I would like to lock down all the variants I can, and I'm starting from the beginning; VIA C3 (Or Cyrix III, or WinChip 4/5, or whatever you prefer to call it). There is a lot of confusion about which cores are in which models, which dates they released, which ones were boxed (or canned) units, which were OEM units. I'm hoping to at least solve two of those questions at the very least, but I need some help.

If you have a VIA C3 processor, please take photographs of the FRONT and BACK, well lit and square, and try to get a CPU-Z/AIDA64 screenshot if you're one of our resident Retro guys that has a motherboard that can run the thing. Any photographs used for database entries will be credited to your name on the forum. VIA put C3 on many ITX/embedded boards and I'd love to see those too! Just snap a front photo and a screenshot for those ones, no need to desolder it for a back-side photo.

If you can't get screenshots that's okay, good clear photos of these CPUs are still greatly appreciated. You can get great photos with cellphone cameras these days, and taking a photo outside in daylight (not necessarily in direct sun) on the back of an envelope, a piece of paper, or just a scrap of cardboard will do the trick.

Thanks!

Demonstration of good square photos:

Here's two of an embedded C3 800 from an Asus barebones. I've only got 2:00pm sun or shade. If you'd like me to try again closer to dusk, let me know.

That second one looks perfect. Very legible. If you get that thing powered up and can get a CPU-Z or AIDA CPUID screenshot that would be super helpful. Looks like a Samuel2, but the proof is in the CPUID. Plus it'd be nice to see what stepping it is.

I'll see what I can do. I think the PSU is dead, but maybe it's got a little more to give.

Looked through my camera roll and found this shot of the full board. Cropped down just the chip too if you want to use that.

Why did you harvest eeprom from it?

I hope the photos are clear enough, let me know if you need better shots and I'll try again :)

I've got CPU-Z screenshots, but the only board I have on hand to test them with is a 440BX slot1 which does not set the bus or mulitplier correclty and ID's all of them as "Cyrix 300A". I'll include them below if they are of any use, I'll try to dig out another board later...

(Pretty sure that L2 cache value on the 733Mhz is wrong :))
