Creating custom XMP profile for DDR4

holy moly, great i had some free time to waste on browsing and finding this.
already gotten so tired with (re) tweaking stuff on every update/clear cmos (not enough juice for clocks/timings),
that i wouldnt even care to optimize more than primary (and a few sec) timings.

except i cant write it back, using spd_write (file size incorrect), no matter what i tried...

everything worked incl saving the new profile, just the writing back is an issue,
with spd-write giving error when i run cmd or PS.

It has to do something with editing. Usually file size isnt that big.

This is from the 'open issues' on github

You may only be able to write on AMD/ryzen platforms - IIRC Intel have an SPD write protect BIOS option that was needed for some RGB ram setups, that setting may be the key.

in that case it's probably a software conflict, you need to ditch anything that uses the RAM - not just open programs but services too. Nothing that uses RGB, temperature sensors and so on.


the file size issue may be something else with how it's being altered or saved, but write issues will be a conflict with another software


Post your original SPD file, and what you tried to modify and i'll see if i can edit them here without the same issue occuring

At times i forget how easy this has made my life, with a 3800 profile on this ram - i alter just two settings for 3866 (SoC and lower TRFC), while the 3800 'just works' on all my AM4 systems

ive already checked my bios (random a320 i bought just for this [and other experimentation later ig]), there's no option in the likes of spd write disable

could it be that some memory modules (d4) come w/ that? is there a way around (should be, it's reversible for a reason) that?

As long as you have the equipment to communicate with the SPD chip, it is a matter of sending the correct bit sequence to unlock the reversible software write protection. If the motherboard have no option for this, you have to try and see if you are able to disable write protect manually.

That's an intel only BIOS setting, usually.

yeah, im aware thats why i bought a cheap discard a320 and some (almost) obsolete summit ridge to go w/ it but i still wasn't able to flash bc of aforementioned rswp (at the very least that's what thaiphoon told me), ig that's related to them sticcs having some additional protection features ... ?

the tool linked in the OP at the very least was not able to circumvent it.

Probably your RAM has its SPD settings write-protected, as they should be from the factory.

Where is addr52_to_write.spd located and how did you modify it?
Why are you using the default backup filename like addr52.spd for writing? This file will be overwritten!

The prompt "Write SPD to device" should only contain a number. In your case you need to enter 52 and the next time 53

im using DDR4XMPEditor.exe to edit spd file.
all of them i have in 1 folder on my desktop: C:\Users\Krstn\Desktop\DDR4XMPEditor 1

now it works. i have overwritten spd data.

The information is all in the same location as the downloads.
We can give advice all day long and it'll be terrible advice that'll brick your system if you don't provide all the needed information

It is not found in spd write.exe and spd read.exe.
