crossfire flickering with 2 monitors... still

In all honesty i had this fixed for the longest time by just flashing away all of the idle clocks on my cards.. then one died and i got a non reference card in rma which blows(goodbye voltage control), now i have this flickering again on my second monitor.. is there a good fix that i've somehow manage to miss all the time i've had these cards..

i can't believe this is still happening after all this time....

Hi

A few more details would help TPU members assist you further

Catalyst driver version you are using?
Do you have monitor drivers installed?
Native resolution for Monitor 1 model & which vga card it is connected to
Native resolution for Monitor 2 model & which vga card it is connected to
What cables are being used to each monitor? HDMI DVI VGA or mini displayport
Which ports are in use on your HD 5870's? - are you using one cable per card or are both cables attached to the same card?)
Are the core & mem clocks the same on both vga cards?

the flicker has been an issue for a long time it comes from the cards downclocking and the second monitor flickers because of it,

use catalyst profiles aka the XML files and just edit the low power clocks to something in the 400/800 range or something similar, just send erocker a PM, he came up with the quick fix which i used for a long time. mostly through common sense, but no one else but erocker figured out the simple solution.

Hi

You could try this for Catalyst 11.7 control panel

open catalyst control centre/performance/AMD Overdrive (leave this option open)

go to Presets/add Preset -Fill in Name e.g: Default vid OC /Location remove all ticks

NEXT

Goto Control Panel\ folder options/view - select Show hidden files and folders

NEXT

open Computer/ explore C:\Users\*Your user profile*\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE\Profiles/you should see your newly created Default vid OC.xml

NEXT

Highlite - Default vid OC.xml - press right hand mouse button - select edit

you will see - Feature name="CoreClockTarget_0

<Property name="Want_0" value="15700" />
<Property name="Want_1" value="55000" />
<Property name="Want_2" value="86000" />

raise the Want_0 value from 15700 to 55000
this will adjust your core clock once you are in the windows enviroment and allows you to continue using AMD's ULps settings.

nb: as you have two cards you should see two entries to adjust for the coreclock targets

Note: if you reinstall drivers at any point you will have to set option up again

i'm using the 11.8 preview drivers atm.. i see no profiles option in this control panel.. moved or non existent
