FAQ ATI:
Q: Does Crossfire need both internal bridge connectors connected?
A: Nope, unless you are running at a very high resolution, or if you have a X19x0 card.

And I have 2 hd 3870 in crossfire connected with a single bridge. They work great!
I have tried with two bridge and gained nothing ...

Dude: that tells me that this FAQ section is old ... and i mean old, as in outdated.

How many generations of cards have been out since the X19x0 cards?

With the latest Cats (8.6) it actually told me to connect both CF connectors.

I was of the belief you only needed more than one IF you were using resolutions above 1980x1200...

it appears that has changed. Or that they figure the HD4000 cards need the bandwidth. They have been trying to "idiot-proof" CF for a while.

It was actually in the 38X0 section ...

But nevermind! I am using a single bridge and have tested with two bridges! No difference at all!
So put in 2 bridges if you want! It won't hurt.

Catalyst has wanted me to install two bridges since the 8.3's anyway. bichonn, could you list the rest of your system specifications? What drivers are you using, and if you are using anything 8.3 or newer, why in the heck isn't Catalyst complaining that you only are using one bridge? Strange.

Catalyst 8.6!

I stopped using two bridges after reading in the faq! Never had any issues with only one bridge!

May be because I am in 16 - 16 mode ...???

if you look in this forum, you will find a lot of people using only one bridge. some of them even claim getting better result with only one bridge.
I personnaly didn't notice any difference!

Hi guys
When i run just 2 video cards i use just one bridge . I have ran the 2 video cards set-up with
2 brigdes and tested it and saw no pick up . So i'am the the only one that can go form one card
to two cards than 3 cards in crossfire do a 3dmark run at each seting and not have to restart his
rig ? .I finaly got 8.6 driver to install and no crashing in 3d apps i finaly get to move up from the
8.3 drivers.

No you are not alone! I also run in crossfire with only 1 bridge, and I never restart when enabling/disabling my crossfire!

But don't say anything here ... people will think you are crazy ;)
