They just don't like helping with valueram.

Theres no difference between value ram and high end ram. (aside from timings it will run)

I've run all sorts of "value ram" in my DFI boards.

But yes, set it to 2T first.

If the board wont boot with the sticks in the other slots, but it will the first two, you probably need to rma the board.

Also be sure to check out memtest. If the one stick gives you a bsod and other doesn't you could have a bad stick.

In todays mobos you should be able to use any combination of the 4 slots and get a stable machine. Dual channel or not.

In this review they had problems with value ram too,had to use looser timings.

Maybe looser timings and setting idle cycle limit to 16 may help.

She should run fine at 1T, I know those DFI boards have shitloads of ram options but even after getting it to work I'd start with optimized defaults and then make sure yr ram's timings are running from SPD to check stock timings etc are working right. Memtest the stuff overnight as well just to be sure it's 100% then set timings manually and get overclocking that thing!

Double sided 1gb sticks could still have a problem with earlier chipsets/cpu's (don't remember if he's on intel or AMD)

DFI just arent worth bothering with. After the hassles I had with DFI boards I owned (2 nf2 based boards and 2 SLi-D boards) I will NEVER use a DFI board again, their not worth the effort or headaches. Largely they are unstable boards, and if you want any hope in hell in OCing on a DFI board and for it to be stable the only options are BH5 or TCCD, forget about TCC5 or anything like that, DFI boards largely hate TCC5.

DFI owns man. I admit they are hard to stabilize a lot of the time, but once you get one tweaked right it's usually a beast. Then again there are a lot of other good boards out there without those problems, so I do see your point. I like Asus the most, can't wait to get another one of their boards.

TBH DFI boards are nothing but unstable junker mofos. Their the only board I've ever known where I had to change PSU, graphics, memory, and even my HDD to get stable. Why waste so much time and money on a DFI when you can get an Asus, Gigabyte or similar board which will work as it should right out the box and OC at least as well?

As regards for their performance, their nothing special at all. Plenty of boards could give a DFI a run for its rediculous price premium and were much cheaper.

DFI's are very finicky, i can admit that,as ive had mine for 5 months now and i ve read quite alot to learn what everything is in the bios of this monster..and i can tell you this now.this motherboard (the expert) is the best damn board i have ever owned,its like a woman there are days its just retarted and you cant figure it out..and there are days its beatiful and will do what you tell it..and your welcome Zero,glad to help you out

i had a non expert and it was outright horrible, didnt like 2 sets of ram, didnt like my old psu and would not get over 260fsb without overvolting everything, it went back for a refund and i got a foxconn nf4 cheap which does 340fsb+ without any extra voltages (just as well really, it only has voltage adjustment for cpu and ram)

sounds like you had a bad board grings..my dfi proudly will do 430fsb on my x2 3800+..it will amost do 500fsb but the chip doesnt like it..

A mainboard should work without having "retarded" days, period. I still have a well respected mag sitting around somewhere where they did a nf4 mobo roundup, and yup, you guessed it, the DFI board wouldnt run stable even @ stock for them.

Theres something odd about DFI's engineering.

Its finiky about things like a PSU other mobos wouldn;t even complain about.

dfi are are funny with ram its true ive already had to send some bk coz it didnt work! but if you get the right parts that work ok on it you can max them right out, so with a dfi it is a bit of luck its true
