Hi all,

I have a question regarding my 1090T and RAM compatibility. I'm currently running @ 1600 with 4 2GB sticks of Corsair's XMS3, which is their rated speed. My CPU's P0 is 3.8GHz (PhenomTweaker) and NB is @ 2400 as I understand NB speed should be roughly 3 times the DRAM frequency. Everything is stable and smooth, no issues.

I'm able to buy a 8GB (2x 4GB) set from a friend: G.Skill Ares F3-1866C9D-8GAB

This will allow me to keep running 8GB of RAM but with the option of upgrading to my motherboard's maximum supported amount of 16GB in the near future. That would really be my main reason for doing it.

But, the G.skill set happens to be 1866. Now, I realize that I can easily run that memory at 1600 so no issues there, but I'm wondering if the 1090T could actually run the memory at its rated speed of 1866. I was a bit surprised, given how little I know about tweaking and overclocking (or even hardware in general, really), that the Phenom runs with my current 1600 sticks; I thought the max was 1333.

Like I said, I'm not the sharpest pencil in the drawer when it comes to hardware knowledge, but if you can forgive my ignorance in this matter and advise me whether or not 1866 is a no-go, I would really appreciate it. :toast:

You can certainly try to run it there. I run my 1090t @ 3.6 with a 1333 memory speed. I am also running 4x 4gb of G.skill Ares 1600 mhz memory in that system. I myself tend not to oc the memory controller especially with 4 sticks of memory. But thats just me. I just tighten the timings.

Thanks, RCoon :toast:

I was aware of my motherboard's specs and that it should be able to handle 1866. It's solely the CPU I'm curious about.

No difference in games wouldn't surprise me. That's not the goal in any case; going from 2GB sticks to 4GB sticks and then being able to step up to 16GB total down the road is the idea. The new RAM happens to be 1866 instead of 1600, hence my inquiry. :D

Good to know, thank you. :toast: So the NB frequency might need to be lowered again when all 4 dimms are populated again... I have zero issue with 4 sticks and the NB @ 2400 now though. But I suppose 4 sticks with greater capacity and higher speed could very well behave differently.

I was surprised myself. Just lucky, I guess. Neither my current 1090T nor my X2 555 BE before that have ever had any issues with that RAM speed. If the 1090T ends up playing nice with 1866 as well then :twitch: :)

If your 1090t has a decent IMC, it should handle 2400 NB with four sticks no problem. I ran mine a bit higher than that. I found that lower/tighter timings trumps frequency.

Thanks, guys. Useful info. :D

I'll see how my system reacts to 1866 with its current settings and start from there. Will post what happened once I know.
