Heya folks;

I decided to drop in an old DVD drive for one of my builds and for some reason it will not work. I'm really puzzled. The blue end of the IDE cable is plugged into the motherboard and the master side is plugged in with the jumpers set accordingly. If anyone has any ideas what the problem might be I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks!

Does the LED flash on it and the drive actually open when you press the button?

Flash

Did you ever have it running on this machine?
Secondly, does the bios show it.
do a google search to find a firmware flash. In other words you may need to to re-flash the drive with a more current firmware for the OS to recognize it.

Well assuming the power is connected up properly, then i would say its dead. Even when not connected to a PC, if it has power, you can open and shut the drive bay. :ohwell:

Maybe your IDE port on Motherboard is error, I have experienced that problem (undetected in BIOS and my computer)

Yeah but like i said earlier, if it has power the drive can independantly open and shut the drive tray. So unless something is up with the power, id say its dead. :ohwell:

**UPDATE**

Today I had the bright idea to test the drive on an old setup and was suprised to see that it worked fine. However in my main rig it seems its not getting any power, however my video card and other components are getting power. So, once again I'm stumped.

Any suggestions? :rolleyes:

Try a different molex connector, that might be it. Then again maybe you already have.

The wierd thing is it powers up fine in a different machine. I also tried hooking up a fan to the 4 pin molex connectors I tried hooking the DVD drive up and they worked great. Ugh, heh. This is very odd, I would hate to go out and buy another drive just to have it not work too.

Have you tried just pluggin the power into the dvd rive, nothing else and booting?

It should allow you to see if its a power issue. Cus you should be able to operate the disc tray.

I've tried plugging other things in like fans and such and those work fine, but with the dvd drive it just doesn't open. :confused:
