I currently have an old Evga 680i. Problem is, I would like to have a Wolfdale/Yorkfield in it. Still battling the decision of picking up a quad or a dual, but that's another story. If I pick up a dual, then this board could work, but how well? Currently though I believe the Wolfdales are supported (with latest bios update), but Yorkfields are not. Don't understand though why...because the 780i supports them, and the 780i is just a 680i chip with more CPU code updates, correct?

Though, would I be better off trying to sell this and pick up a P5Q Pro? Or would another p45 board be better? I'm not too interested in SLI, so it doesn't have to be a NV chipset. Anyway Intel's are better overall with power consumption and overclocking, so those are two ups for me. :D

Thanks. :toast:

I have a EVGA 680i board without the BIOS update and i love it.

I think you should try the BIOS update and see what happens, i dont think it will OC that well tho since its not use to the Wolfdales,

The Asus P5Q Pro is a P45 chipset i believe. And if you really want to OC, then sure get the P5Q Pro, i hear they OC well.

Or just get a Q6600 and try and OC it on the 680i board.

quads dont oc well while the latest bios helps it a little you need a really good binned chip and for more % of success make sure its an A1 revision as for dual core wolfdales (E7200 etdc) mine is at 4.3Ghz

P5Q Pro's sound awesome boards - my P5K Premium (P35) is epic, 400+FSB and its a pretty little number too.

P5Q + Yorkfield quad ftw!

Yeah, I'm leaning toward a quad (Yorkfield), so that means I would have to pick up a newer chipset such as a p45. Anyway the power consumption on the p45's are great, so that's a plus.

I proably will get a P5Q Pro, don't need SLI support, and I can sell my Evga 680i and not loose much. (its NIB as i just got it back from a RMA)

You may get away with selling the 680i for maybe $110. But you wont get much for it.

And yes if you get a Yorkfield, say goodbye to the 680i. P5Q Pro is a good pick for a P45 board tho, i would get one if i had the cash.:)

I still love my 680i board.:)

Yeah, I was snooping around on Ebay, and it seems $75 to $120. I'd be happy with $75 for sure, as a P5Q is only $100 after the rebate. :D

Well, its fresh from the RMA department of Evga. When I got it from a friend (worked with him lol), it decided to not post, because of a CPU error, so I RMA'ed it. Tried even with an old Pentium D, as the error code was "CPU compatibility issues", but still no luck.

I'll probably go out and borrow a CPU from a local PC shop, and see if it works before I sell it. Don't want to sell someone a bad board, as I know sometimes even a RMA board is bad,.
