So I recently got the EVGA GTX 970 SC and couldn't get a stable overclock on it pass 1450MHz on the core, even with changing the core voltage and power limit in Precision X. I wanted to try a custom bios on it since I had success with my previous card (GTX 660). I used nvflash to put a 970 FTW bios on my 970 SC. When I restarted my computer my GPU fans are at 100% constant and my computer isn't posting the MB bios or Windows. Another thing is whenever you unplug or plug in any of the display cables the computer crashes and restarts.

Can you not put a FTW bios on a SC card?

I backed up my stock bios on my desktop with GPU-Z. Is it possible to put the stock bios back on?

I'm kinda panicking because I hope I don't have a new $350 paperweight. I'd appreciate some help.

reset mb bois so that it can boot with igpu. then reflash back stock vbios to your 970.
next time dont fuck up with things that you cant afford with ease to replace :shadedshu:

edit: dont forget to move monitor cable to mb dvi after bios reset.
and add your system specs here http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/account/specs

Where would I find the setting to force to start up with igpu? My motherboard changes whenever there is a card present in the PCIE slot.

Plug your old 660 in the primary 16x slot and the 970 in the secondary, do NOT put an SLI bridge on them.

My MB only has one PCIE 16x slot and two PCI 1x slots. Of course you don't SLI a 970 and 660. I'll have to pick up an old PCI gpu then.

Which motherboard is that exactly? are you sure you cannot force it to boot from Igpu?

Edit:If you cant force it boot from IGPU then im not sure you can force it to boot from PCI over PCIE.

It's an Acer Predator G3-605. I am not sure I can force boot over igpu but worse case scenario I can try the PCI.

@Gimbo that is not a motherboard ; Predator G3-605 was released in multiple models and maybe MB's are different also...; you don't have PCI slots... those 2 are also PCIE

open the case and check the mobo type maybe you can find on producer site how to change settings...

blah acer have shittest user manual i've ever seen
before you reset bios try to connect monitor cable to mb and see if system can boot or run windows. normaly if gpu is bricked mb should automaticaly switch to igpu.
if this doesnt help you have to reset bios.

this picture is for g3-610 but you should have something similar and you have to locate it by yourself cause i couldnt find clear hi res photo of your mb.
in the right red circle bottom jumper is cmos reset. table next to it shows positions 1-2 is normal, 2-3 is clr_cmos. you need to look at the table on your mb and place jumper on clr_cmos possition and then start pc but first of all move monitor cable to mb dvi. start pc enter bios (hold F2 or Del key while system start up) go to load system defaults press and confirm when asked are you sure to load system defaults. save&exit bios and turn off pc (hold power button).
move back cmos reset jumper to normal position and start pc again. use vbios falsh utility to reflash your 970

pretty sure the FTW has a different PCB design than the rest of the EVGA line up (A cheaper design)

?? Why would the FTW have a cheaper PCB design? On the hierarchy of EVGA it goes SC, SSC, FTW.

Correct me if I am wrong, and maybe I am. But when I had the SSC, I did some heavy research on the models and I think there was some differences as far as phase power design being better on the SSC as well as the BIOS switch. I think the cooler design was different as well. IIRC, the FTW model (normally real nice) was closer to the bottom of the 970 line up.

But then again, this is my first day back to work after 2 week vaca. So I might be a little scattered brained at the moment.

:) I'll take your word on it, since you did research on the phases and PCB's. I'm merely going by where the models lie in the lineup.

No worries :) Again, I could be blowing smoke (though I don't think so as this was in the midst of the "heat-pipes not fully touching" fiasco). I was surprised that the FTW model did not live up to my assumed expectations at the time.

So, my point is that you need to be careful (as everyone ALWAYS says) when flashing BIOS, as not all cards of the same family are created equal.

I was successfully able to put the stock bios back onto the card by ghetto rigging my old computer so everything is good now. Thank you for all the help

Is there a way to do this without an on-board video? I have an ASUS M5A99FX that has no on-board video, but my card won't allow me to flash the stock BIOS back on to it. My card is fine at the moment, but should I need to RMA it for any reason, it would be nice to flash the stock ROM back on first.

Then when you are ready just flash it back. You only need the on board gpu if your flash went wrong which yours hasn't.

It's not your motherboard that has the video. Your CPU has built-in video often. I don't know what CPu you have you should fill out your specs.
What CPU do you have.

Then when you are ready just flash it back. You only need the on board gpu if your flash went wrong which yours hasn't.

But that's just it; Whenever I try to flash my stock rom back onto it, I get the BIOS error message (BIOS 2.0 Cert), even with the modded flash tool that will let me flash literally everything else.

I'll work on the spec sheet. In the meantime, I have an AMD FX-8350 which does not have iGPU and I have a 960 rather than a 970, but still a Maxwell GPU. I do have an old 570 laying around that I could use in the main slot and try the route suggested by Jack1n. I've never tried flashing with multiple GPUs before, but I'm assuming these's a prompt for which card when using nvflash, right?

As long as you have 2 PCI-e Slots or a board that does your fine, Why flash the BIOS when you can just use a program like after burner to overclock it automatically? Also bare in MIND, Nvidia cards over clock in "increments".

I originally flashed it because EVGA limits the voltage on an SCC to 1.210 so using Afterburner I can only seem to reach 1445 on the core and still be stable. I flashed a rom I made that allows me to reach 1.275v (the limit imposed by resistors on the PCB) and I'm up to 1495 before I get VRel in GPU-Z and artifacts. I'm curious if maybe I just have a bad(ish) GPU and I might RMA it, but I can't with a modded BIOS
