Ok, so I have this strange issue, where the fan for my GPU (HD 6870) revs up or down depending on what I'm doing. Example: Browsing the internet - goes up, minimize explorer window it goes back to normal. Or if I browse my harddrive, it does it again.

I have uninstalled all the drivers that was for the GTS 250 I owned previously (which did not have this issue). Uninstalled the drivers for the HD 6870, and then downloaded it again and installed it. It's still there..

So I was thinking, maybe my friends son, who has the other 6870, maybe his card is ok?
Well, I didn't hear anything at first, so I removed the side cover (he owns an Alienware system), and noticed that even he gets the same issue as I do.

Nothing wrong with the temperatures, they are normal.
Running Afterburner to control the graphics card and it works ok there..

Is there a setting that I'm not aware of in the control panel for the HD 6870??

sounds like hardware acceleration.

should be a setting in your internet browser, see if its unchecked.

Yeah sounds like a HW acceleration on the browser. Also not sure if IE can disable it. Havent checked.

I am going to third the idea that it is hardware acceleration.
