Cartoon characters? like TF2?? Get em on the FPS while they're young, go quake 3, that has like almost no learning curve! easy to play, hard to master, the best deathmatch game of all time

on a more serious note;

get her Mathblaster if its still around, Reader rabbit, and if she is smarter, get her the Cluefinders games. Good, educational games. i remember playin that shit when i was like 6-7. jus like go to staples or something and poke around, they usually have little kid games like that on the shelf.

i dont wanna be liek givin u parenting advice or nething, but id srsly try and get her into reading books if i was you..lots of books...it gives the kid a big advantage over the other kids. an thats the truth.

but ya, pick up liek cluefinders, those ones are pretty good.

+1
those are really fun games, and support co-op so you can play with your daughter, but sadly I don't think those will run on her computer

maybe look at Zoo Tycoon 2 and My Horse and Me , they both have very low requirements

I would also recommend a Nintendo Gamecube as they are very cheap (under $30) and have a large category of kid friendly games

I want to suggest Diner Dash and derivatives but I've caught some adware with it and I'm not sure if it's related to it. Anyway I think Wii has a good deal of good and fun games suitable for kids.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

About being active and running around... lol I agree but if you see my daughter, she's slim and always running, jumping rope, running on the beach... I actually do want to find a way where she can have fun and play quietly - the poor girl exerts herself so much that she gets really tired by the end of the day!

I think for now I'll get her Reader Rabbit and Barbie Fashion Show. That way she gets something educational as well.

Spore works on her pc even though it's below the minimum system requirements!

I also got her Reader Rabbit 2nd Grade... but can't find the 1st Grade anywhere...

None. Video games and TV, even educational programs, stifle imagination. Give her toys so she can create her own stories and worlds. Save the video games for when she is older.

Aww, I'm sure it won't hurt her to have 2 or 3 recreational games and like 6 educational ones... I wouldn't want her to be glued in front of the pc either.

Thing is, she does see me on my pc... and she wanted to have a couple of her own games as well...

All kids love that game, and they don't go around killing people. They think that is bad to do....you can mod the crap out of that game.sooooooo if you wanted to take out the guns and what people said you can. GTASA would be the best one besides vice city to mod.

She likes all types of games, especially platform ones. I used to let her run around a bit in Oblivion under my supervision, but then it's too complicated for her.

Any ideas?

Games having popular cartoon characters like Sponge-Bob and Scooby doo?

Educational games especially to learn reading in English?

RPG's with simple mouse & keyboard control?

Games like having a doll on the screen and you apply make-up and change clothes?

Please help me out with a list, whether freeware or games which I have to buy is not important.

Thanks.

Heya, not sure if your still looking for some games or not, but i know some great rpgs which would fit this perfectly.

There is a free RPG download, called Ahrimian's Prophecy, you can get this by simply typing it in google, now i'd go as far to say this RPG is fantastic, rivalling that of the best 2d rpgs created, You start off as a young girl, and its quite "cutey" so i think she'd like this.

There is also a sequal, Aveyond, and Aveyond 2, these are also AMAZING, but they are not free, however if she enjoys that one, i'm sure she will enjoy these ones even more as the controlls are alot easier, and the resolution is much improved.

Enjoy!

World of Goo is great. Both my 6 and 8 yr old love it. I help them through some of the hard parts, and they work together trying to figure out the best plan.

Lincoln logs, building blocks, legos, make games out of flash cards. Erector sets are good too. For the computer, there used to be and probably still is a series of "Reader Rabbit" learning games. These games make learning basic math and language fun.

Let the childs imagination take hold before the computer begins thinking for her.

It's all a matter of balance. My kids read every night, we play table games with them. They get plenty of exercise too. So, I don't mind them playing a half hour of games in the evening. I prefer this over television, any day.

That's exactly what I want to achieve. My daughter's very active. If you leave her alone, with a skipping rope, she'd skip till she drops... she's an only child (and will remain so :) ) so when she has friends around she'd want to play for 25 hours a day, 8 days a week...
We read together, and I check her homework and we study together. Maybe it's a fault on my part but I just can't make it interesting enough (both for her and for me) to be able to play together for... uhhh.... hours...:ohwell: there's a limit to my rope skipping and stuff... and I really don't want to get her exhausted.

I had put up a pc for her but originally it just had the windows paint and sonic hedgehog for her to play. And during her free time (after she's exhausted) she'd end up in front of the TV, and I agree with Paulieg in that I don't like TV for kids... too much feeding of stuff, way too little interaction.

Computer interaction might make a body lazy if it gets out of control, but simple TV makes both the body and the mind lazy.

Oh, and my 8 yr old daughter is getting interested in hardware too. She loves the water cooling system that I built, and is going to help me rebuild it in a couple of weeks. She will know how to build her own system by age 10.
