I plan on ditching NVidia for one reason: G-Sync cost

I won't be buying a video card until later this fall and will either go used or Vega 56, depending on prices, along with a new monitor. My current monitor is 12 year old ;)

why buy GPU base on gsync or freesync? i rather buy fastest GPU, i think you have misconception about gsync/freesync

then again its makes more sense for AMD side to have freesync monitor

I've heard great things about both. Now Vega now has "adaptive sync" that doesn't require either. Part of it is prinicpal, pay $200+ more for a G-Sync monitor that Nvida won't (or cant') allow FreeSync to be part of? I stayed away from them since they would only allow SLI on their MB chipsets. More power to them for setting themselves up to make money, it just won't be mine if I can help it.

Never buy based solely on things you have "heard of". Go into a store and see the technology at work. Your eyes may tell you a different story (or not). The same goes for buying audio equipment.

Why do you need an ideal world to go into a store and test equipment?

What kind of stores do you have around you where you can compare Free Sync vs. G Sync vs. Adaptive Sync? If you find one, let me know.

They're more or less the same things , the only differences that you might perceive come from the games themselves running better or worse on the respective hardware.

Just go look at the damn things, see if your eye can spot the difference, that's all. If you actually need them side by side to be able to tell the difference, then the difference is really pointless. Don't apply this piece of advice to audio equipment, though ;)

Got rid of my two 480 and two 580 GPUs in a trade for i9-7900X CPU, Board, and RAM.
I'll be fine with my GTX series cards for a good long time.

Why do you need an ideal world to go into a store and test equipment?

These stores that just happen to have the equipment you available to test where do they exist?

Not upgrading this round unless a Asus happens to release a Poseidon version of a Vega card then I may reconsider depending on availability.

It's not that I can't afford it, it's that I'm not willing to pay that much which should be a little more telling.

Well, yes, a row of monitors.....perhaps not next to each other, an ideal situation, but, they are there bud. ;)

There aren't any Fry's or Microcenters in out here where I live(only 16 states get the privilege), only thing you could consider a electronics store is a best buy. Yes, you can go there to look at their selection of monitors but we're talking about gpus. So only in an ideal world everyone has access to a demo at a brick and mortar store.

That's where I am at too. I'm not upgrading unless I absolutely have to (read: something breaks). The amount of money I'd normally be willing to spend only buys me a side-grade at this point, not an upgrade.

1070/80 users totally under represented here. According steam survey 1070 leads with 3.3% user base, followed by 1080 - 1.7% and 1080 Ti - 0.6%. Now what do we see here the Ti has 50% more happy people than both. Others probably didn't care responding or unhappy or going Amd, but why. I'm buying 1070 Ti if priced 20% bellow 1080 where performance is.
