ok, Im not totally clueless, ok maybe
Ive pluged everything in... exciept for the cd drive... motherboard has power but hitting on off on board does nothing .. no lights no fans no nothing at all.. I been trying to figure out what plugs may be out .. tried any number of reversing power and grond to case pins wires.. everything looks like no power, but I switch power supply on and off and the light on the Z87X UD4H turns on and off.. odd
any thoughts?
has cpu cpu fan stock..
has mem 2 sticks
has no case fans
has one hd and sata drive plugged in ...
first time its been set up, fresh out of the boxes..
new sea sonic gold ps.. g500m or something like that...

Did you make sure to use stand offs when mounting the motherboard in the case? Try with One stick of ram too.

And did you switch on the power for the power supply.

Not in case
Testing before installation
Ps switched on, resulting in mobo lighting up on on/ off switch
Mem is g skill 2400 will remove one stick per your suggestion

what surface do you have it sitting on if you are testing outside the case?

i was hoping it was something like that, I hate exchanges... now its time to getthe hds and cd and windows and decent fans up.. this is fun, yep, thats why we do it!

fyi, is auto speed of the cpu at 3900' ish and idle temp read at bios of 39c normal?

off to the store, did notrealize the old cd read write was not compatible, and at these prices why get an adaptor that costs as much as a new drive?

the cores at near idle are 27 32 28 29 c slight OC in auto mode on chip 4670k
Which stress test? I have 64 bit version of Win 7 ?

I cannot find the test recommended .. but
I ran prime95.. half and hour ... max cores at high 80s.. all cores similar temp speed at 3791 from auto boost...
Does this mean I have a desent chip for temps, these temps where off theSTOCK cooler which is crap... no paste.. just the little glue the cpu fan came with....
Im in the initial testing phase to determine delid or no de lid..

4670k first results

On stock cooler idle 30s and prime 60s C , then with 4300 OC
with prime95 ran hot in low 80s at 4700 it cooked it and I shut down for heat

Switched out to cooler max evo212 added higher vol fan
Prime 95 in low 50's and high 40 but low OC still
Is it too soon for me to judge. This chip worthy of keeping its lid on?
I hear both sides of the lid/ de lid battle
Eventually I'll switch over to water and just not sure if I'm looking at a rare good lid on game on chip?
I'll get higher oc and temps posted as I test

Delidded will of course improve temps if you paste it properly with coolab or a decent paste like MX-5. Hyper 212 Evo is a mid range cooler, dont expect high OC's on such an average cooling solution. If you want 4.5 - 4.8Ghz you're gonna need a H80i or equivalent or better (Phantek 14, etc). The EVO is a great cooler but not meant for high end OC's.

I've got a custom water kit being dusted off and am building a mod box...
Thanks, just looked great idling in low 20s. Getting mid 4s for basic, not tuned quick OC has me pumped....
So, you think I definitely should de lid... Humm I was hoping you would say its not got much more room...lol
I added the evo just to test as it was available

Those temps look fine. Perhaps the non-hyperthreaded Haswells do not generate the same heat as the others.

I had 4700 but too hot on stock
Those 46-51 C maxed out where tiny evo212
With lower OC
I'm not excited about delidding but water OC gets me going... anyway ...
So
I'll continue some tests, FYI my 2 nd 360 black ice shipped and I picked up three delta 120 case fans... They do look identical to the scythe but different motor ... And very loud at 62db the air flow great wowo Really like same factory identical ...
So I have not OC since 07 it's nice to see some positive numbers and ill try to post

Low 50's with evo on mild OC is extremely good temps , if tht is 4.3 you still have headroom for improvement.
4.7 might be to much but I would try 4.5 as long as temps under prime are under 75-80c your be fine .
Your temps in real app with be 10-15c lower than prime95 .

No. Please stop making new threads. You basically need one thread for your build, not a new thread for every aspect of it. Doing this keeps all the information in one place. I have now taken the new thread you started and merged it with this one. If you want a new thread title, just drop me a PM.
