I re-TIM'd my 7970m a while back and it didn't occur to me until today to see if TriXX would let me OC the GPU. Turns out it does! So I've spent the past hour messing around with it. For reference, I'm running a P170EM CLEVO chassis with an i7-3720QM. Looking at the 8970m and it looks like the boost clock goes up to 900Mhz, but the memory is the same. I know it's just a re-branded part with a upped clock. I'm also using the latest 14.6 drivers.
Base: 850/1200
Max Memory: 1265Mhz (Any higher and 3DMark won't even try and load, just throws an error)
Max GPU: 960Mhz (13% increase!)
3DM Firestrike:
Stock: 4133 (78C)
OC: 4719 (81C)
Unigine Heaven:
Stock: 1215 (87C)
OC: 1354 (90C)
I could probably take the GPU higher, wonder if it'd hit 1000Mhz. Should have tried this a long time ago when this laptop was my only computer!
I wish my 290 OC'd this well and this easily. Then again, it has twice the ROPs and shaders and memory bandwidth and....
