GPU temp isn't read until "GPU" button is clicked

RealTemp correctly identifies the GPU, but doesn't actually read the temperature until the button labeled "GPU 0 °C" is clicked. Is this normal?

Specs:
- OS: Windows 8.1
- GPU: nVidia GeForce GT 330M 1GB with the latest drivers
